What's happened to Shield Arc

   / What's happened to Shield Arc #61
It has been almost a year since I saw him last. He was not doing well physical. He has a myriad of problems as a result of a serious on the job accident that almost took his life. He was an avid poster on the welding web at that time. He indicated that he had lost interest in TBN, no real reason he cited. He was a breath of fresh air and debunked a lot of the bogus info that can creep into our posts where the vast majority are not professional welders making their living at it. He lives close by.

Have to wonder who P'd him off. I hope it wasn't me. He was such a great contributor.

I do not think it was any one thing. He just got tired and decided to concentrate on the welding web which is predominately those working in the trade, more his crowd. He was not a real tractor fan like most of us.

yeah, but he sure as heck helped us improve our welding or at least told us better ways to do things.

Yes. What I benefitted from is that you could describe what you wanted to do and he would give you an experience-based best practice answer.

Ron, last time I saw Carl in person was at your house when we were wrestling over scrap steel you were parting with!

From what he told me, he was lucky to be alive and the injury took a lot out of him. He sure was generous to me inviting me over and teaching me the basics at his place.

BTW the propane tank I picked up from you then has been keeping my shop warm this winter. The Propane guys are happy to top it off when I get the house tank filled. Will do until I do it right with a sealed combustion heater and a larger tank.

I lost Carl's phone number. Do you know his handle on WW? I want to reach out to him again.

He is CEP on WW, but with the mess that WW is these days, I'm not sure if it will work or not. I think I saw him post there in the past week.

Shield Arc is a GREAT resource, I sure hope he makes it back.

I'm surprised how many missed this post (#11 in this thread), from the hobbyist himself. ;)

I’m just RE reposting this.

Thanks 850 for the reminder to those who may have missed POST # 11 from SA

Thanks for the data point. He is surely missed here.

Post #35 last January I reported on him after a visit to his shop. I have been remiss in mot going to see him again. I will try and get by there again soon. He is a great guy. I need to talk to him anyway about the TIG attachment I just got at the auction.

I'd love to hear an update on his problem neighbor saga that was going on for years. Hope he's doing well.

Thank you for offering to do that. Curious how he is doing.

Silvic's comment #4 and Shield Arc's reply at the bottom of comment #11, of this thread, have had me curious as to who tried to pick fights with him since those comments were made.

I guess I've really never noticed any in fighting on here. Not really much arguing either. I thought that was reserved for the Welding Web.

Not worth going into. Just brings up animosity.

Has anyone heard from Shield Arc? The latest comment I've found from him was made at the end of June. He hasn't responded to my PM, either.

Probably like Henro, got tired of the constant BS level and stupidity this forum is rampant with. Henro posts on another forum I frequent but not here. I understand fully. I took a multi year hiatus myself and came back to a 'nothing changed but the user name' forum. Thunk I need to close out and take another multi year vacation. Maybe then it will change but I doubt it. probably get worse.

Henro was recently posting here. We had a conversation regarding divining rods over beer mugs. :drink:

Wasn't aware he did. He's a personal friend of mine, know him and his wife. You'll find him more on OTT because like me, his tractors are orange.
