What's the best microwave oven???

Best bank for the buck. Mid-size, not for a 20# turkey.
I bought a new one a year ago, wife tried heating tortilla chips and it burned cabinet at magnetron. The turntable bottom area is rusty also. It works but needs replacement.
Best would be a simple knob type but looks like they're all digital.
Experience with a good one is appreciated.

Had a regular Panasonic, lasted 2 years. 1.7 cubic foot Sharp now on 5th year. before that Samsung that lasted 12 years. Will say current Sharp the best one we ever had.

I just bought a Hamilton Beach unit a month ago. 1000W output, digital. Haven't figured out all the functions yet but works fine so far. It has a child safety lock for the control panel and locks the door. We don't have any youngsters here so prefer not to have it.

Now THAT I'll look in to. My genius (!) wife told me today she would open the door checking on food as it was cooking. Of course the door safety switches would shut it of but I told her NEVER do that!
Maybe I'll just order a cast iron cauldron for the fireplace!

You can open the door to check on the food but you have to go through a procedure of pushing certain numbers to release the lock

Just defeat the door safety switch, and stick your head in. Also works to quickly dry hair after a shower. Might curl your eyelashes though.

I have a 1950’s Geiger Counter but it’s only audible…

Not sure I have anything to do an actual measurement.

As to computers… still have my Apple//e with 80 column display, Apple 40 CPS LQP Daisywheel, IEEE card and Visacalc and 1200 Baud modem.

I’ve come to the conclusion I take care of equipment better than most and buy carefully for the specific task at hand…

Both of our microwaves in this house were built in ca.1995... both still running.

I have replaced almost every part except the cabinet and keypad on the big one in the kitchen, at this point. But it still beats re-doing cabinetry to make a new "standard" microwave fit an old "pre-standard" hole.

I'd recommend this beast as "reliable" to Fuddy, but I'm quite sure they don't make it anymore. Thus is the problem with all appliance experience, by the time you realize it's a good one, it's out of production.

Yep… and the lighter weight the construction often parallels with a shorter service life.

I was visiting a very old friend and in the kitchen they had an all metal chrome Amana Radar Ranger from the 1960’s… still irradiating

I’ve been in the same boat, trying to find a microwave that actually lasts without weird issues. I’ve read some reviews on onn electronics https://onn-electronics.pissedconsumer.cоm/review.html and their models seem pretty decent for everyday use. It’s not fancy, but if you just want reliability and simplicity, it looks solid. I also check how easy they are to clean because that’s a dealbreaker for me. Honestly, sometimes the simplest option ends up being the best choice in the long run.

I bought a Samsung yesterday from Lowes. It was $400 on sale for $259. My Lowes card discount paid for the tax. Wife really likes it especially because the cavity is ceramic and easy to clean. Much larger than one we had.
