What's With the Ford Super Duty Pricing?

Yep. the prices are out of control. That is why I bought a 2005 CTD 2500quad cab with 8k on it for $22,000 last year from a guy that rebuilds salvaged CTD's. My truck still smelled new and it was fixed right so I don't really give a darn if it is an R-title or not. I figure I am going to run it into the ground anyway so resale is a non issue for me. I figured it saved me atleast 10 grand if not more.
But you are right and it doesn't matter which brand you buy they are all out of control.

The prices when adjusted for inflation and COL are not that far off where my 2002 F250 was for actual adjusted purchase price.

Watch the lots and see how long those trucks sit. A friend of mine bought brand new 2007 F-350 diesel with a 3k plow package. The truck listed for 47k and sat on the dealer lot for 9 months. He offered 37k and the dealer took it. It is expensive to floor plan those trucks.

That's why I've only ever bought 1 new vehicle, my wife's Pacifica. My 01 Expedition Eddie Bauer I bought from Alberta, Can$39K plus $500 shipping, Can$53K list in 2001. I bought it 5 months old, 29,000 km in the fall of 2001.

After a recent fender bender collision repair, I'm getting Edelbrock Ricor shocks, a Flowmaster custom made dual out cat back system, already have a K&N Filtercharger kit with Amsoil Ea cone filter, and Pro Comp All Terrain tires.

My new house, GC2310, dual axle aluminum landscape trailer, and wife's Pacifica have a firm grip on my nether regions :) Therefore, upgrade the Expedition and keep it for a long time, like forever:)

Beside, our minority Conservative (ya sure....) government has kowtow'd to the enviro radicals and brought in a federal rebate for super low consumption passenger vehicles, and up to a $4000 penalty tax on high consumption vehicles, including passenger cars and SUV's. Pickup's are exempt, as they are "work" vehicles. Maybe our Prime Minister isn't so dumb after all.....:)

Anyway, I'd love a new Suburban 2500, but a well maintained Expedition is what it'll be.

Anyone looking at the new diesel trucks...whatever brand...should look at the potential costs of repairing/replacing parts of the emission control systems...that are supposed to occur in the 100,000-150,000 mile range depending on the company...very enlightening...:)

The MSRP (sticker) for the 2008 Superdutys is not a lot higher than the MSRP for an equivalent 2007. I recently bought an '07 F350 Lariat 6.0 CC FX4 with all the bells and whistles. MRSP on the '07 was over $50K. But with the clearance pricing and rebates trying to clear out the '07s, I paid a little over $39K. I paid less for it than my '04 F250 Lariat 6.0 CC FX4 that I got at invoice minus rebates. Even a new '07 F350 6.0 King Ranch FX4 dually with MSRP of almost $53K they were willing to sell for less than $41K (including rebates). With the 'X' plan here at work, I could have bought an '08 for somewhere around $46K, but without the clearance pricing and rebates that was almost $7K more than I paid for the '07. There was some great pricing on the '07s for a while, but most of them are gone now.

Explain "new",
Explain "parts of the emission control system".

Why? For environmental regulations? Or just plain old maintenance?

Again, when adjusted for inflation the difference is not great. Yes, they are more and I personally think too they are overpriced (don't we all), but they are not tremendously more expensive when one adjusts for these things and for the increased price of the diesel with emissions controls, etc. I cannot speak for Dodge or Chevy products, but the 2008 SD 6.4L is a few thousand nicer truck than the 2007's. How much I suppose depends on the buyer.

Well if you go on the www.turbodieselregister.com...and peruse...
TDR Roundtable > RAM: The Third Generation - 3G (2003 and Up) > 6.7L Engine and Transmissions (2007.5+)

You'll discover they have new written message displayed on the overhead, that reads “Oil Change is Required” furthermore the duration is based on duty cycle not mileage intervals. This is in support of the Cummins 2010 emission rated engines...

2007 Engine Exhaust Systems

Apr 11, 2007 5:31 PM

Did you know there are severe restrictions on the types of modifications that can be made to engine exhaust systems on 2007 engines?

The exhaust systems are now part of the engine emission controls and can’t be altered without affecting engine performance, compromising safety or potentially voiding engine warranties. Specific restrictions depend on the engine and chassis manufacturers. In general, no modifications may be made between the turbocharger and the diesel particulate filter, and only limited modifications may be made between the filter and the exhaust outlet. Restricted modifications include relocating components or rerouting exhaust pipes. They also may include adding components, such as exhaust brakes, or extending pipes.

Departments are strongly advised to consult with the engine or vehicle manufacturers before making any changes to the exhaust systems on apparatus equipped with 2007 engines.

There is more...but I got to go on a call...:)
