What\'s YOUR Dream Tractor?

I was talking with a friend yesterday and the disucssion somehow turned to what tractor would each of us get if we could. Forget about being able to really afford it or even really need it. What would we get? I went Kubota, he went for the NH TC29.

I guess I'd just be curious about what other folks think? I'll go first.

My dream rig would be a Kubota Grande L 3410 HST. It would have a FEL (quick attach, of course), R4s, 72" mid-mount mower (for a lot of reasons), folding ROPS, and I'd probably look into a 6' bush hog and a 6' or 7' back blade. At least one tiltmeter, maybe a front to back as well as the side to side. It's probably more rig than I would ever need, although it would be great to have the power to do things you can't with the smaller tractors and with larger implements I could see me spending time doing constructive things like hanging out pool side with a beer (maybe two on a hot afternoon).

The down side is that work (at least in my experience) needing to be done is in direct proportion to the equipment readily available. Now, with a new bigger & more powerful tractor that might not be all bad.

Anyway, it's nice to dream a little.

Re: What\'s YOUR Dream Tractor?

Gosh, Bob, you're easily pleased. There's no way I could have a "dream" tractor with just one tractor. I'd have to have at least 3 to have the right one for each thing I want to do. I'd need an air-conditioned cab on an M120 for the big summer jobs, a B7500 for mowing the yard and cultivating the garden, and that new L48 for the loader and backhoe./w3tcompact/icons/cool.gif/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Bird,

Don't forget that dozer. If we are dreaming I'd have to have one.

Re: What\'s YOUR Dream Tractor?

Yeah, I was going to say the most expensive tractor made... so I could sell it and get many tractors. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Re: What\'s YOUR Dream Tractor?

My dream tractor would be the one I have now (a TC40D), only with a glass enclosed cab for winter use. Of course I also need a heated barn that would allow me to go out and tinker and improvise like Harv and MarkC while waiting for the spring thaw.

Now that I'm thinking it might be nice to have a smaller unit for mowing around the house, maybe a backhoe for the occasional hole, maybe a skidsteer for making myself dizzy, and maybe an excavator for ....

Re: What\'s YOUR Dream Tractor?

I'd settle for a half-dozen L3010's.

One with a fully-hydraulic box blade,
one with a 6-foot brush hog,
one with a backhoe,
one with a PTO chipper ...

You get the idea -- Freedom Hitch my sweet fanny! /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Re: What\'s YOUR Dream Tractor?

I have features I'd like to see.

1. Wide, high-flotation wheels with good traction, so I wouldn't rut and bog down in my wet and muddy areas. The wheels would look like giant paint rollers, as wide as the tractor, with Ag treads on them.

2. Same type of wheel on the back of the brush cutter.

3. A front 3ph, where you could mount a front brush hog, front finish mower and other implements.

4. The ability to raise and lower the rear hitch and the mid-mount independently. Once I have completed my brush cutting, I am going to want to have my belly mower and brush hog on the tractor at the same time, so I can switch mowers "on the fly" as I move from my non-stumpy areas to my stumpy areas. But the rear and mid links move together. I am able to pin up the mid-mower on the 2910, but only with extremely klutzy and inconvenient pins, so that I can then drop the rear hitch. (The BX is much better in this regard; it has a knob you can turn from the seat that holds up the mid-mower.) But I can't do the opposite: keep up the rear hitch (with cutter or ballast)when I drop the mid-mower. Why can't they put on a simple mechanism to do this. Or am I missing something?

Re: What\'s YOUR Dream Tractor?

Bird, I agree with you!
#1 Case 580-L with clamshell and extenda-hoe
#2 Kubota 3410 or JD4400
#3 My trusty B8200 for "close in" work
#4-8 All Farmall's in the "letter Series, A, B, C, H, M
#9 Allis Chalmers B just for good measure

Heck, the guy I got my Farmall from had a variety of 16 antique tractors before he decided to sell a few off!

So, with that, I could still support a global economy, and at the same time fly Old Glory while parading on American Iron too.

Hey, I like this idea!
