Hello,

We've recently refinished a dyke around our property to make it passable with the tractor, but the slope is a little steep in a couple of spots. From what I've read, loading the tires is a good option but I'm concerned that the extra weight will cause some problems for us in spring, since we're in a low-lying area and the weight of the tractor is already a bit of a concern for me. Does anyone know if I can add wheel spacers to a 2305? If so, I'd be grateful if you could recommend a supplier. From what I've read, widening the stance is a good alternative to extra weight. I'm using the standard turf tires. In the winter I'm running chains. I've also heard of people turning their tires around to wide the stance. Is this do-able on my 2305 as well?

Thanks!

If you haven't read this http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/jd-owning-operating/96452-hub-spacers.html, give it a read.

As far as swapping your wheels side to side, your manual addresses this:

Using Optional Rear Cast Iron Wheel Weights
1. Mount rear wheels in the wide position for improved stability.

So, per your manual, you can swap side to side. Read the section on ballasting your tractor...that's where I found the statement above. You can also add wheel weights which can be removed as required.

I swapped my fronts. This resulted in a noticable improvement on slopes.

Thanks Roy! You've opened up some options to consider!!

Just read the manual again... Presumably, the front and rear tires are currently mounted in the narrow position.

I think I'll start by swapping the fronts and rears and see if I notice an improvement as it loooks like the wheel spacers are a fairly expensive option. I've sent an email to Unverferth just to find in the mean time.

Normally, I wouldn't bother looking at changing the tractor setup, but I've got this little voice in my head telling me that I should be increasing the stability before the grass cutting season starts this year!

Thanks again!

Gord,

Deere makes spacers that will fit the 2210/2305. I believe they are the same as on the X series.

Do they make them for some of the other units too?

Well I was able to flip the front tires around, but the rears were already installed in the wider stance, which I think is odd since the valve stem is now on the in-side of the rim on the front and on the out-side of the rim on the back.

It must've come from the factory/warehouse like this, as I don't think the dealer would've rotated them prior to delivery.

Well I talked to my local JD dealer today. The senior parts guy said he looked high and low and could not find any spacers for 2210, 2305, or the X-Series tractors. He said he even searched the newest parts books for the new X-Series and he went back to 2003 for the others.

JDFanatic, you don't by chance happen to have a part number available?

Thanks all!

Here's the skinny:

BM18021 Wheel Spacer Kit (425, 445, 455)

For all Wheel Steer Tractors when Installing TY15956 Chains.

Not for X-Series Tractors.

JDEERE2210 has them on his 2210.

Yep that sounds correct. As it was for all my previous tractors.

I have two sets and run them on the front and rear of my 2210. I will try and get some pictures. I did find them available on ebay see item 230109935692

The local dealer can't get this part apparently, but he said he'd keep trying. Judging by the picture, the BM18021s only look to be about an inch thick. I sent the seller an email but no response yet.

JD_2210 do you find they make a noticeable difference?

If I go for a 3" spacer instead, I can bring the rears out in alignment with my bucket width, but then I might need to consider cowling extenders :)

I got mine for free, but now after using them I would have paid for the difference and the machine is noticably more stable (roughly 2" wider), and I feel a little width helps on such a narrow machine to begin with.

. I got a set of wider tires coming, and i will set them on their widest setting and see how that works. if that does not do it then its over to getting some dirt and and smoothing out this one area where the tractor might have an issue. Should be fun!
