Is this normal? I keep a half-hearted check on worldwide weather from a farming perspective. Not that I have worldwide farms, I am just curious to see how other people are doing. I get the impression that there has been more snow than usual in many places during the N. hemisphere winter, but a shortage of rain in those places that do not get any (or very little) snow.
Winter is our wet time but we have had exactly 90mm in the last four calendar months, and a fall of 15mm last week was the heaviest since 28th Nov so naturally the ground is very dry. Fortunately Nov was wet so there is still some water in dams/ponds and rivers, but some streams are not flowing. Next week's temp forecast is high 20sC and we do not normally get them until into May.
Yup. It's regulated. Kawagama Lake - look it up on Google Earth. 2 Years ago, the lake came up to 5 feet in the spring instead of the usual 4 feet, and all the crib docs were submerged, and all the floating docks were floating on the Lake, along with a whole bunch of other stuff. It was quite a mess!
