Where are these Tractors built?

Re: Where is these Tractors built?

Well, Bigdave, I infer because it has been stated over the times I have been here more than once. I provide the alternative view.
As to your applinaces, I am happy /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif to hear that you are pleased with them /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif. I am equally sorry I can not parrot the line that everyhting is equal and etc /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif. Unfortunately that PC sentiment escapes my old school of hard knocks lessons learned /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif. We, unfortunately are not all created equal but loved equally by our creator and I figure that applies to tractors as well if you follow what I am saying /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif, in any case, this is about tractors not cars and I am happy with my belief system. As to cars, I have nothing against Fords /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif, my wifes Explorer was a decent car overall /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif though it did leave us walking in the middle of Yellowstone /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif. I could buy another Ford somtime. I looked at Ford pu trucks and then looked at the Insurance Institute crash tests, Ford FAILED /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif, Chevy and Dodge were barely passable /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif, Tundra got the highest rating--EXCELLENT /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif. That website is available to anyone. Ford has a new truck coming. I hope it addresses the horrible crash integrity of previous models and who knows, my next truck may well be a Ford for what value that is /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif. It is the pink squashy cream filling in the middle that I worry about, not the sheet metal that surrounds me or it's origins. Looking forward in my next life to arguing that tractors constructed in a geosynchronous orbit are clearly superior to tractors constructed in low earth orbit /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif. J

JTC:

Chinese society is now probably more open than you might imagine but still way short of US standards. Ten years ago, bribing the right offical was just part of doing business. Now days, they jail and execute corrupt officials. Like I said before, things are changing fast and I think within 10 years they will have some form of elected government.

Interesting. Is your observation generally valid throughout the country, or, just in the "foreign" industrial areas. China has a history of setting aside certain areas for foreign trade and setting up different rules for that area, while the rest of the country is run completely different. Don't know. Just asking.

By all meaningful measures that I've found, the aggregate US standard of living is much higher than 100 years ago.

Each of us has so many hours, days, months & years to live. The bottom line is how much of that time do we have to spend to get the things we want/need. The less time required for necessities gives us more time for other things. When someone takes your money, they are taking away that portion of your life required to earn it. Which is why GDP, GDP per capita, etc. are "make believe" statistics as far as standard of living goes. Certainly, you have access to technological products not available 100 years ago. However, comparing your property now to what you had 15 years ago only says you have improved yourself over time (which would hopefully be the case for most of us). The REAL question to ask is how many hours NET did you have to work to earn the price of the 2 bedroom, 1000 sq ft house 15 years ago, vs. how many hours NET did someone at your age then and at your stage then of your working life/career did that person have to work 100 years ago to earn NET the same house. Many products have changed very little over time (others, of course, have improved technologically). When we compare REAL today with comparable REAL 100 years ago you find, technological improvements aside, that you are working harder today for less.

I'm not a tree hugger but no company should have the right to fowl ground water, surface water or air (to a reasonable degree) beyond their property.

Groan. Dumping your garbage on your neighbors front lawn is a violation of their property rights. Has nothing to do with the "environmentalist" religion. The basis of freedom IS private property rights - including your right not to have others dump their garbage on YOUR property (certainly not without your permission). So-called polution is a property rights issue. Environmentalism, at its core, is a nature religion, is against private property and is an enemy of your freedom and property rights.
