Eastern folks have better access to high speed internet points.

Bird,
According to my search Corinth TX has two zip codes 76208 and 76210. Sometime when doing a map search for a business I have to use the Rural Route zip code instead of the Post Office zip code. Wich ever zip you tried before try the other one.

Gatorboy, thanks for the link it is great to see where others are located.

If you ever want to get a closer view from satellite try using MSN Virtual Earth.

I switched over to satellite. Then was able to zoom and cursor to a overhead picture of my place. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Me too; I did notice on the web site that it is not (yet) set up to take all zip codes.

That's pretty cool...but I sure am lost in the crowd!

The postal service sells their zip code list along with associated data (latitude/longitude, phone area code, etc) to various brokers who in turn offer the data to the public in various formats. There are plenty of brokers who have this data for sale on the internet. I did some software for a company that used the postal database for a call center. The subscription they had from a broker was updated quarterly. It looks like the map people have outdated zip code data.

Roy,

You can zoom in to your area, and pretty soon you're your own person again! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Yep, I'm in 76210 which it called an invalid zip code, but it took 76208 and calls it Denton instead of Corinth. Actually Corinth is a separate city just south of Denton, but Corinth has no post office. Our mail is delivered by a carrier from the Denton post office. And that's not and unusual situation. I know of at least 4 separate cities that are considered to be Dallas by the post office.

</font><font color="blue" class="small">( FarmWithJunk,

I saw you on the map and since I have been curious on the location of Mt. Washington, I took a look.

I used to live in Louisville almost 30 years ago. Dang that is a long time ago! I found my old house on the Sat photo. I can't believe how much development has taken place! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif The woods I used to play in are all filled with houses....

"Metro Louisville" as it's now known is out of control with development. Several counties in Kentucky, as well as a few on the Indiana side of the Ohio River are booming. Farms are being sectioned up and turned into subdivisions at an alarming rate. Supposedly, Louisville is one of the cheapest places in the nation for cost of living. That's changing fast. We bought in the Mt. Washington area to get away from some of Louisvilles development, and now it's started here too. The back side of our farm borders a subdivision that's full of $400,000+ homes. Never thought I'd see the day...........

Still, Mt Washington retains that
"Mayberry" feel. Something very comfortable about a place where kids can play in the park, people walk to church, and everyone waves when you drive past.

Well, it took Sunset's zip code. I don't think there are too many places that are smaller; although, Sunset has been around a long time so maybe that's why its zip code is in the database.

We kinda lived in the sticks. I went to Ballard HS which rumour has it was built on a pig farm. There was an old Catholic Seminary with big buildings but more importantly lots of land. The last images I looked at the seminary was now a subdivision. We where on the outskirts of Louisville now its like its in town.

I wanna go back and drive around one day. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

The Frapper Maps are pretty slick, but...it could be so much cooler.

I set a Frapper up for the boating group I run. However, after a few days, I bit the bullet, and built my own. It's integrated into our site, so there's no duplication of data - all of the markers and popups leverage the information in our members' existing profiles. From our members' perspective, they just see one more profile field - ZIP code. Once populated, they get a push-pin on the map, with a popup containing all of their info. If they don't want to be on the map, they just leave the ZIP code field blank.

Google makes accessing their mapping code very easy - it's not that tough to do. It's certainly more involved than simple web page creation, but from what I've seen of this place, it's well within the skills of the TBN nerds.

Here's a link to ours for those interested. The markers are color-coded to boat type, and you can click the markers in the legend (top of the page) to reduce the display to just the boat models you are interested in. The popups contain links to the member's profile, photo album, and other info they may have entered.

Took about 2 days of programming...and I'm not that good. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Nice job.

I know Muhammad said they were looking into something like location maps. It would be a usefull addition to this site, if you could call up a map from profile data. The tractors around you could then be seen, easily, and you can go pester your fellow TBN'er for advice and help. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Perhaps Muhammad can weigh in again?

Any progress on adding a map feature to the forum?

I think it would be great if we could see where everyone was located. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I added myself, but it put me in the middle of the freeway. So, if you're heading down I-10, watch out for me, because that's where they say I am!

You may want to ZOOM in a bit farther. You are a few hundred yards from the freeway.
