I found the answer to what size R4 tires I can run on my JD 5425 and now I just need to find a place to buy the correct size wheels and I will put together a 2nd set of wheels and tires. My local JD dealer charges $350 per wheel. It would not be reasonable for me to have a 2nd set of wheels and tires if the spare set of wheels alone will cost me just under $1500 by the time I have tax added. I can't seem to find anywhere else on the net where I can buy JD wheels. Certainly there is some place that sells JD wheels, isn't there?!

Check your phone book's yellow pages and see if there are any tractor junk yards or used tractor parts dealers in your area.

Go to Machine Finder on JD's web site and search for misc/parts and many dealers have tires for sale. Not sure what shipping will run but it can not be too much.

First off, I don't know much about how JD does stuff. But here is how Ford has done things and usually all the Mfg. follow one another. The first Japanese tractors had metric bolt patterns they were the 1920, 1720 etc. Fords from the nineties. The rims and tires came from Japan with the unit. When the new TC series models came out around 2000 the tractors were buit with SAE inch bolt patterns and the tires and rims come from Titan Tire stateside. This is when they started offering R4's as an option. So, if JD makes your model with R4's as a OEM option then the rims are more than likely inch sizing and you can get them from any AG rim supplier. Try Tucker Tire company.
Tucker's Tire Company
They sell on Ebay also.
Or Miller Tire

What size are they? Look up the tire on Titan's website and get the rim info and go from there.

You can take a look at the following link.
However I think anything you buy new from whatever source will be quite expensive. I recommend you consider looking for set of used rims of the desired width and diameter. If the bolt or lug pattern is not correct you could have a local welding/machine shop modify the rims or make up adapter plates to fit the 5425. Paint everything JD yellow and it won't look too bad.

Have you considered radial tires to increase the footprint? Radials would also require less loading/weighting for the same traction.

Dargo, I see you still have your Harbor freight claw hammer!

I think the hard part is that the newer tractor may have a newer lug pattern. Maybe not. If you can determine that it may match up to older stuff, you may have a shot at finding used.

Absolutely! It's by far my best purchase from there. It works as well as my much more expensive "balanced" hammers from better known manufacturers who charge far more than $2.00 for their hammers. I had 2, but I did manage to break one. However, it was definitely from abuse.

Thanks to Shaley for posting the links to a couple of stores. What shocked me was that I called both yesterday (Saturday) and both said that they'd have to look up some stuff and asked me if I could call back next week. Maybe they are just laid back places that don't pressure a sale? Hopefully one of the places will come through for me. My current rims are made by Titan. I followed the Titan link to show dealers in my area. One is a fairly large tire dealer who just happens to be my next door neighbor. He is one of the first people I called last week. He told me that he doesn't sell any tractor wheels and told me to buy the wheels from my dealer and then come back for the tires. My local JD dealer was the other place listed on the Titan site as a dealer.

I honestly would have never thought it would have been so hard to just buy a spare set of wheels for my tractor. As I said, I have a line on the tires I need, so I just need the wheels but don't want to pay $350 each at my local dealer. Even my dealer suggested I shop around for some wheels. :(

If you are successful with either of those 2 places could you please let us know how you make out. I may be looking for something similar for a 25 series. Good luck with your search.

Ebay and machinefinder are the first places that I looked at when I bought a 2nd tire/rim combo for my JD970.

Ended up buying from my JD dealer. If I could have found something that was cost effective --- I would have had one of my brothers pick them up and when I came down for my annual pheasant hunt I would have brought them back with me to Alaska.

Long and short --- I found a couple of sets at a JD dealer in Wisconsin but the price difference was so close that it didn't make good money sense.

Local dealer let me have them for the listed price on the JD configurator and they absorbed the shipping costs. Shipping to Alaska is about 30% added to the cost of any item these days!!!

Good luck with your "quest".

Well, I'm about to give up. It surprises me that I can find decent deals on tires but can't find wheels. I looked up local dealers on the Titan site (that's who made the wheels on my tractor now) and they listed two tire dealers and my JD dealer. Neither of the tire dealers said that they could get the wheels. My JD dealer is sitting firm on $350 per wheel. At that price, it isn't happening. It's a bit depressing, but I've learned to not be surprised at anything in the tractor business. :(
