Well, we're still working on it. They seem to be nice enough laid back people. Definitely not high pressure sales people. Hopefully I'll know more on Tuesday.

Ebay and machinefinder are the first places that I looked at when I bought a 2nd tire/rim combo for my JD970.

Ended up buying from my JD dealer. If I could have found something that was cost effective --- I would have had one of my brothers pick them up and when I came down for my annual pheasant hunt I would have brought them back with me to Alaska.

Long and short --- I found a couple of sets at a JD dealer in Wisconsin but the price difference was so close that it didn't make good money sense.

Local dealer let me have them for the listed price on the JD configurator and they absorbed the shipping costs. Shipping to Alaska is about 30% added to the cost of any item these days!!!

Good luck with your "quest".

I also used ebay and machine finder and got lucky. i had the tires shipped to my local dealer and that worked out just fine.

I'm still working on getting my set of wheels and tires together, but I can say that the people at Hey Machinery (Hey Wheel) are first rate people. They are great to deal with and down home honest people. Now if only every company in business would treat their customers the way they would like to be treated...

Dargo, good to hear that you found some good folk's to work with --

Are you getting the rubber with the rims or just the rims and the inside wheel plate?

And if you don't mind --- how much pain is this likely to cause for your checkbook?

Thanks -- AKfish

I will end up with a complete second set of Titan rims with Titan R4's on them for my tractor. By going about it the hard way, buying from different places, having to sand down and paint my own rims etc., it looks like I'm going to save about $2200 as compared to just buying a complete set of wheels and tires from any place that quoted me the complete set; even more savings vs. buying the entire shooting match from my JD dealer. I'm still waiting on a couple of things. Once I get everything, get my tires mounted on the rims and make sure all works fine; then I'll post what I actually saved. Right now I am actually still speculating since I'm not finished.

Glad we were able to help. Keep trying ebay also. New stuff all the time. I just got a manual for my planter for $3.30 when the dealer charges $60.00 plus shipping and handling fee.

I finally got my new wheels and R4 tires together, painted, mounted and installed on my tractor. By the time I bought the sandpaper, paint, and paid to have the rear tires mounted (I just couldn't get them mounted by myself), I ended up spending $1326 for the complete set. This is with Titan R4 tires and Titan wheels. The tractor came from JD with Titan wheels but had Firestone R1's. It took me several afternoons of work but it wasn't too bad.

The total cost ended up being a bit more than what I hoped it would be, but it still was right at $2000 less than just ordering the set from JD or even my local Titan tire dealers that I found via Titan's website. It is still quite a bit of money for a second set of wheels and tires, but it's in the range that I considered realistic. If it was going to cost me well over $3000, I just wasn't going to do it. Anyway, I wanted to thank the people here on TBN for recommending Hey Machinery for the wheels. As I mentioned earlier, they are definitely good people to work with and I'd recommend them for anyone else needing wheels for their tractor.

Dargo; Congrats! You made out very well. A good investment of your time and the sweat equity paid off for you with a significant cost savings.

And now all the users here on TBN can also benefit from your experience with the good folk's at Hey Machinery!

Thanks,
AKfish

Congratulations. Did you get the tires locally, you said your neighbor was a tire dealer? If you don't mind telling us, what was the breakdown dollar wise between the tires and the rims. What size tires were you dealing with? Are the R4's the same size as the original R1's? I assume you only had to purchase the rim portions and not the center disks if the diameter stayed the same?
Good luck with the new setup.
