Where did I go wrong?

Bill, my memory ain't even too faint on those cars with no oil filter. My own first car had none ('46 Chevy). /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif And I, too, have a pair of 16" channel locks. And you're right about them being handy for lots of things, but I bought mine well over 20 years ago specifically to remove the large diameter, but thin nut in the hub in order to pull the rear brake drums from my '77 Dodge 3/4 ton. I had to slightly grind the nose on the bench grinder to get it in there, but figured that was better than trying to buy that giant sized socket that's made for that purpose. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I bought this filter wrench (attached) for about $12 at a dept store. It removes the most stubborn filters, because it digs in (crushes) as you put more pressure on it. Can't remember what store.

Ron - It's spread over my driveway along with some new Amsoil and today added some front axle case oil to the mix. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Think I'll just forget the testing and go with the 3,000 mile change as I've done the past + 40 years.

Even put all the oil in a 5 gal can so I could take oil back to dealer to dispose of.

Somebody recently posted that they mix the used fluid half and half with diesel and run it in their tractor.

Anyon else ever heard of doing that?

I have heard of people doing this with old tractors that they don't care about, but to risk a $5000 engine to save a few dollars isn't very wise in my opinion. During WW II, people would start their cars on gasoline and then switch over to running on 1/2 gasoline 1/2 kerosene. They ran, but not very well, however during the war, it was easier to get kerosene than it was gasoline.

Mike, that is pretty nearly the wrench that I mentioned I broke trying to remove one of the factory hydro filters on my B7400. The top handle broke right in half - I was pretty surprised as it had always done me well in the past, but that filter was on TIGHT!
