Grapple Which Grapple Root or Claw???

Where did you get this? How much? Weight? Many of my rocks aren't that big but the single grapple with adjustable forks will work.
It was made by ALO and I bought it from a tractor dealer who sells ALO products... I have no idea what they cost today...

It pretty much stays on my tractor, as it has hundreds of uses, from being an adjustable work table (with a piece of plywood) to moving big bales of hay to digging rocks out of the ground, moving pallets to allowing closer cuts when cutting firewood ect... The uses just keep going on and on and on, replacing many tools...

Just asking as I am relatively new to grapples, I have root, double lidded grapples on our L5740 and M8540, but wouldn't the claw grapple retain more lift strength on a B Series as it looks like it is placing the load closer in?

Yep. The tradeoff is cubic feet of capacity and being able to get "under" a load.

Having just bent both cylinder arms on my fairly new Kubota B2650 I'm much more aware of anything with much weight that requires arms/cylinders to be greatly extended and the claw type seems to require that but maybe not. While observing the video on EA Ted seemed to pick stuff up claw fashion rather than coming under it and lifting with the root grapple and seemed like he was extending cylinder arms way out while working/picking up. May not be an issue but fresh on my mind.

If I'm trying to compress a brush pile and pick it up I start with Grapple open and curled forward so my claw tips and grapple teeth are same vertical height. Grapple cylinders completely collapsed. Little or no pressure on FEL curl cylinders. I then position Grapple over pile and using FEL lift cylinders compress pile. Then I close Grapple, retract curl cylinders, and extend FEL lift cylinders all at the same time.

I think rocks are pretty easy no matter what type of grapple you have. All sizes and shapes.

Here is one

I got it out easily but couldn't lift it much. Had to skid it sort of.

Then there are all these we have lots of rocks

Where did you get this bucket grapple, how much and how much does it weigh?

It is an ATI grapple kit. Fits 48" to 66" buckets. The tube comes long. You slide the hubs/mounting ears onto the tube assembly. Weld the tube to the hubs and cut off the extra tube sticking out on each end. I bought it in April of 2006 so I've had it 10 years. At that time it was $700. It weighs 135 lbs.

View attachment 490738View attachment 490737My grapple - Land Pride SGC1560 - is a rock/stump type. One of the reasons I chose it - the center of mass of the object being picked up is closer in to the pivot pin. This allows for a little heavier load to be picked up. Kind of helps offset the weight of the grapple - 820#.

Dog nab it - system is back to not letting me upload pics again.

Persistence pays off - I guess.

One other thing - see the grill guard in the pic on the left. After reading MANY posts here on TBN I decided I did not want my radiator/grill/battery perforated by some errant branch. I had a local welding shop add the expanded metal right on to the OEM grill guard. I can't say, positively, that its saved me from perforation but I've picked several branches out of the expanded metal.......

I have a B2650 Kubota and have decided I want, different than need, a grapple. Have been researching for a couple weeks and talked with my Kubota dealer a couple times about getting one. If I use it I will be doing some brush pick up, no big trees or stumps. I also have many rocks in the 24" to 36" size. I currently have difficulty picking up these rocks with my front bucket. Sometimes I can do it like a pro and other times I push them all over the yard.:confused2:
Watched Teds EA video using his small grapple which I'd call a root grapple and he seemed to be using it like a claw grapple by tilting bucket far forward and coming down on the brush and not coming under it and picking it up. Maybe that's his way or maybe that's the way it's supposed to be done. Sure he knows more than me who has never used one and he has.
Any way I'm between these two grapples which weigh about the same and near the same size and about same price. I recently bent both cylinders on my FEL arms while using a front backhoe. I may have tilted the cylinders out to far which may have caused it which seems to be what is happening when Ted uses his grapple like a claw grapple which I want to avoid.
Would like opinions between claw and root grapples for my intended rare use of a grapple before ordering one. Here are links to the two I'm considering. Also looking at one that's over 400 lbs but much less money.

Life is interesting. :cool2: I started this thread about 3 months ago. Things changed.:D I've been desiring, wanting some additional land that's behind my property. Made an offer a couple years ago with no positive results. I was about to purchase some land down the road about 6 miles but before doing so I called the owner of the land behind me and told him I was about to spend my money on some land but before doing so I wanted to see if he may take my money instead of the other guy. We set up a meeting for a couple days later. He agreed to sell me all of the land he owned behind my property (5 acres) plus sell me the 6 building lots across the street from me and my brother (brother lives next door). I told him I didn't want the six lots but he said that's the only way he'd sell me the land estimated to be 21 acres beside me along with the access road between me and my brother that had been built to access the tower that was recently removed from the top of the mountain (hill). I agreed to buy it all which ended up being 25+ acres once surveyed at our original agreed on price. He preferred 3% interest with 5 equal pmnts over 5 years with no cash down other than $58 deed recording fee. :cool2:
So, original plan/need interest in grapple has changed to NEED grapple. Now trading my B2650 and ZD326 to Barlows next week after seeing Mar Kubota incentives for a L3901 HST FEL loaded tires Front hydraulics and a 6' Landpride Rotary mower plus I'll go back and add the Landpride claw type grapple to finance it all for the 60 months 0%. Yep, things can change over 3 months which is why I have bought over 20 Kubotas from Barlows in the past 13 years. Maybe this will be my last purchase/trade!!!!!:laughing::laughing:
