Kubota BX22
Hello All...I'm a new tractor owner...Kubota BX22. Bought it with a number of small projects around the house in mind...The first thing I did was fill in a small manmade pond in the backyard and would like to landscape that area and up to the house. (See attachment) Backscraped most of the area but it needs to be more leveled and then smoothed out to spread loam and plant grass. What attachment(s) do you think I need? Boxscraper, Landscaping Rake...Would like to buy just one if possible. Thanks.

Re: Landscaping Attachments

I think you need some fill, I suppose a box scraper would be the easiest way for you to distribute it.

I am partial to the landscape rake, or as it is known to old folk like me, York rake. Mine has a scarifier and a flat drop down blade that makes it a 3 in 1 tool. Where in MA are you located? Junkman

Welcome to TBN! From your posted desire to buy just one implement, I'm guessing your wife was looking over your shoulder when you posted. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Around here we believe in the American way of 'more is better' when it comes to adding implements. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif In that line I could see this project as justifying a box blade, back blade, landscape rake and even a toothbar for your front end loader bucket. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

If one implement is the way you truly need to go, the three way landscape rake with the blade and scarifiers is probably as good as it gets. Remember, thought, that as with most things, any multiple use tool usually fall short in each use of what the individual tool will do for you. In this case the rake portion is probably an exception to that so you'll be in good shape there.

Good luck with your project and don't be a stranger here. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Last spring I dug out about 4" of stone dust from an area where an above ground pool used to sit. Then I hauled in 18 yards of loam with the FEL and spread it using a 60" landscaping rake.

I am very happy with the way it came out and the performance of the equipment involved (BX 2200 and Woods LRC 60 rake). Make sure you get guide wheels for any rake you buy, though.

Here's a picture before...

And here's after...

I had to do some hand raking to get out small rocks etc. but you will have to do that with anything you use, I think.

Welcome Mike. I agree that "....more is better..." but the if you hyave to choose one, I'd go w/ the landscape rake. A back blade is also a handy tool for alot of jobs. We have a 1200 ft. gravel drive and I own a box blade for that because the stonemix packs so hard. For black dirt I think the rake would be better..........

Easy, rent a pulverizer from a rental yard for a day. The Woods units move and level soil with the beefy I beam frame that acts like a box and then the pulverizer roller breaks everything up and makes it all soft and beautiful and ready to seed. You back up with it to finish smooth. Fabulous job.
$100 for a day or $1200ish to buy.

would a BX 22 be big enough to work a pulverizer ???????

Does a pulverizer blast was existing grass, big weed clumps? thanks,bw

They come in different widths (and thus weights), just make sure your 3 pt is rated for the weight and go. Not a lot of resistance unless you're really moving existing hard soil.

THey do a great job of preping existing areas of thin turf, will beat up the open spaces while leaving the turf, beaten up a bit, but fine. If you want to remove material, you scrape it off with the grader (frame).

How much does a 3 in 1 run and where's a good place to get one? Will it level an area of packed fill pretty good as well as spread top soil? (I live about 25 miles west of Boston.)

Thanks.

I have no idea how much one would cost today. As I said, mine is very old. I just picked up a 6' Howse landscape rake yesterday that is like new. I have posted pictures of each so you can see the differences. The tines on the York are smaller, but I don't know if this is better or worse. I picked up the Howse because the York is originally set up for a Cat 0 tractor, and even though I was able to get the Cat 1 attachment bar, I don't have a welder to attach a new top link bracket to the top of the arch and I need to use the rake this week. Figure that I can always get most of my money back for the Howse at some later date.

I have used mine to spread the loam and level it, but it takes some practice to get it level and smooth. The rear wheels help to give you some more control. One of my rear rake wheels is broken off and this is another repair waiting for a welder. I have used the scarifier only once, but the tractor didn't have enough power to pull it, so I can't speak about how well it will work. I hope to have it fixed by spring so I can try it on the back of the BX22. I know that the BX shouldn't have any problem pulling it.

So it sounds as if the 3-way would level out the gravel fill thats there now and spread loam for seeding later...right? Where might I buy one and what range do they cost? Thanks for the input.

By the way, my wife loved the idea of me getting the BX-22 and any attachments I wanted. Not only did she make a list of projects that "need" to be done, but it makes it real hard for me to say no when she wants to buy something... /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
