Thank you msb1766, I'm wondering if screamin400 has that same engine block, which doesn't take a bolt-on block heater. Can you tell us the make/model of your heater?

I feel bad about this mixup. My friend has the a 2400 and I helped him track down that other bolt-on heater for his 2400. I was not aware of any block variations in the 2400/2450 models. Doh!

I do not know the make or model of the block heater my dealer installed it when I bought the tractor.
I will try an look at it more closely to see if it has any markings on it.

Called the company and went through it with them and they have not seen one without the holes. Went to a Cub Cadet/Yanmar dealer and they cannot even get soft plugs. Thank goodness we did not pull one. My engine number says this one should fit. Cub Cadet says I have to go to the lower coolant hose and put an inline in on mine. Not really what I wanted. I think the soft plugs are 30mm but hate to order a universal heater as it could hit on the inside. Pretty sure I am going to have to go with a hose setup.

My tractor is put away for the night but that looks like mine from memory. If you could get me some info I sure would appreciate it.

My dealer may have put in a universal block heater in my tractor, I know for sure the block heater is installed in the middle freeze plug. I do not know if
it is a threaded freeze plug or not.
If you want to call them:Error

Frost plug heaters are only about a 20 min installation.
Just be sure you order the correct diameter plug, simply measure the hole diameter and order accordingly.
Ok, with the frost plug style you need to drain coolant B4 but you simply pour it back when plug is installed.
Plugs are O-ring snug fit and a pair of ears grip the inside of the block to keep the plug in place.
Just be sure there are no burrs to cut the O-ring and dab a bit of grease or oil on the o-ring B4 installing.

Putting in the heater is not an issue. Getting the right one is. I cannot get a set of my calipers in that area to do the measuring. Local dealers cannot tell me the size as it says not available. I hate to pop one out to check it when not available. I think they are 30mm but I only think this I do not know this. If I go out and purchase a 30mm heater it still may not fit as I do not know what is on the inside of the water jacket. It could hit something and then I would be in trouble again. Wish I could find something online showing the freeze plug size but I cannot find anything. I may do the inline heater just to put and end to the time I have already wasted on this. Winter is almost here. Thanks for the help and any ideas would be appreciated.

Go to the "Phillips- Temro" [makers of Zero start] web site. Look at their on-line catalog. Find your engine model and it will give you the model # block heater as well as the mounting position.

I did this for my Isuzu 2AA1 then took number to my local big truck dealer, they ordered it in for me at cost of $25-$30. Years ago I got one for my Nissan engine from the local New Holland
and Kubota dealer.

IMHO block heaters are more efficient, much cheaper to run, cheaper to buy and far smaller than tank type in-line heaters. My Cummins block heater is only 600w compared to about 1200w-1500w
for a tank type. I run it off a timer that goes on at 3:30AM and off at 9:00AM. Kat's is another brand of heater you can look up. I know a lot of guys don't use block heaters and brag about how their
tractor starts with just glow plugs in low temperatures but I think that for a few cents worth of electricity it's so much easier on the engine to be warm when started.

screamin400,

Have you looked at the opposite side of the engine block? My JD2520 (Yanmar engine) has the heater on the same side as the starter-operator's left from the seat. However, my JD 2305 (also Yanmar engine of similar size) had the block heater installed on the same side as the oil dipstick- operator's right from the seat. I would look closely at all of the "freeze plugs"- there should be 2 on each side. I would want to check that none of the 4 have the pre-existing bolt holes ...

Good Luck,

Frank
