you bust be talking about a brush cutter and the pto shaft? must be a u-joint?
cant you just use a needle point for the grease gun?
are you trying to grease it while its connected to the tractor.
pull the shaft off and the u-joints are much easier to get to

I pull the shaft off of the end next to the tractor. The problem is that the other end has a plastic guard that prevents access to the grease fitting. The guard has access holes, but they are too small. So, you have to either cut the guard to make the holes larger (not recommended by the manufacturer) or remove the guard. The guard has six bolts. So, I am looking for a brand that doesn't require me to disassemble part of the cutter just to reach one grease fitting.

DieselBound,

Take a utility knife and cut a half moon on each bell end of the plastic guard about the size of a quarter so you can get at the fitting. Make a little larger if you need to. Stick a large screw driver in the yoke to rotate the shaft into position.

Brian

That ^^^ is what I did on the big bell shield surrounding the joint and slip clutch. Went half tennis ball size though. Not pretty.

With the Bare Co shaft cover I don't have ANY issues. Not only can I readily grease the zerks the guards make it easier to connect up the shaft.

I had to buy a new PTO shaft which is how I ended up with one of these. Not sure about how just the covers work/retrofit.

While you have that end off, take it over to the workbench where it is comfortable to examine. Try to figure out how to slide out of the way, the protective cover over the u-joint. It usually begins with removing a tiny phillips head screw and turning the protective u-joint cover about an inch. That will line up 3 tabs, enabling the entire cover to slide back. You probably will need to jiggle it a little but don't force it.

The end on remaining on the cutter will separate the same way.
