I recently bought a Farm-Maxx FTM-48G. This is a 48" all gear drive unit, 6 tines per flange, slip clutch, and about 450lbs. Farm-Maxx is the new brand name for Farmtrac implements. Don't know if they have dealers in all areas, but the quality seems real good. It was just under $1500. Just for comparison. I've used it three times so far on my JD455 diesel L&G tractor (18 pto hp), once in pretty nasty clay. I need better tires and some wheel weights, but otherwise it did just fine, rocks and all. However these were all small areas. If I end up doing much larger areas, I'll probably put it on my 2520 CUT. I also agree that compacted, virgin areas need to get broken up with a buster or BB scarifiers first. You never know where you'll find concrete chunks, car parts, massive tree roots, etc lurking just under the sod. I'm working on a job now where the entire yard is made of construction fill. I won't be using the tiller on this one.
