I have been trying to decide which size kubota will best fit my needs. I have 5.1 acres in the foothills in Auburn Ca. I will be using the kubota for mowing pasture about 4 acres, rototilling yearly garden, cutting roads to barn and other spots about 1000 ft or so, and cleaning out and deepening my pond, about 2/3 of an acre. I want to move the pond soil about 300 feet. I'm going to retire in a few months and I don't care how long the pond work takes as long as the tractor I purchase can handle the job. I may also work my tractor on the side to stay busy in retirement so trailering is a consideration. My truck can tow 7,000 lbs. but for ease of loading etc I want to stay way under that. I know this question has been asked lots of times but any input will be appreciated. thanks Ed

First of all welcome to TBN.
If you think Kubota the tractor you want I would at the B2710,B2910 and maybeB3010 models for 5.1 acres.
If your going to do side jobs depending the nature of jobs you have plan,I would look closer at the B3010.
Far as JD&NH goes other TBNer's could be a lot more helpful.

Visit as many dealer as you can and ask questions, also test drive the tractor plus get the spec sheets and do a little home work..remember..purchasing a new tractor today is an investment for sure, and make it fun not work.

Good luck and enjoy.

thanx thomas for the reply. I like the b series, but your right the 3010 is a great tractor. Mowing is the main side job around here. Doesn't rain much after april and have to mow for fire safety. The B series would be a lot easier to get through gates etc. I can see better sitting on the B series, but man the view looking down the hood on the 3010 is awsome. Money is always a factor also. I can get a B7500 with the implements I want a whole lot cheaper than the 3010.

I agree about the price, and the B7500 a great tractor for around the home use..also it has power steering.

I guess your marking the days of until you retire now..

Enjoy and keep/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gifing

I`m not sure of your exact mowing plans. I have been told that the belly mower on the L series(3010) is not the easiest to take on and off. If you plan to go into mucky areas(around pond?) or thru woods it is usually best to remove the belly mower. Glennmac can explain this in further detail /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif. I have 8 acres and just purchased a B2910 (with loader and backhoe) and dont anticipate major problems with any of the jobs planned. Creating a new driveway, maintaining road(right-of-way), planting trees, digging out rocks/stumps. various trenching jobs. That`s just off the top of my head/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif . Wow now that I think about it I should have bought a tractor a couple of years ago I`m already way behind /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif.

Items to consider if purchasing a L3010 would be the difficulty in removing the mid mount mower (if equiped), and the fact that turf tires are required with the mid mount for clearance reasons. You definately would not want to do loader work with the mower attached. I have a mid mount mower for my L3710 and with practice I can remove the mower in 10 minutes but its not much fun. About 85% of what I do involves mowing so its not a big deal for me. I really like the cut and the handling with the MMM.

I don't plan to use a MMM right now, but who knows in the future. I plan to use a bush hog. I can use the hog for myself and if I work off my place, the hog will take the rocks and other blade killers a lot easier than a finish mower. I took the wife to look at Kubotas, and she says I look real good on the B2910. She pointed out its size would suit our place better. I still haven't decided and I have plenty of time, its too wet around here to work the tractor anyway. The seat is suppose to be real good on the 2910, and my back is shot, so that is a factor. Doc wants to fuse it, but the first operation hasn't done much and I'm afraid to get cut again.

ED: welcome to the forum. as for size of tractor, if u were just going to use it on your 5 ac. i would say 2710, but if u are going to hire out , u may want to go up to at leat 3010 depending on what exactly u plan on doing.

do guys use the B series for commercial work? Most of the work around here would be bush hog mowing in the spring and early summer to reduce fire danger. However, I'm not an expert and I'm sure post holes, grading work and misc landscape work is in demand. Local dealer lead me to believe the 3010 would be a lot more trouble to trailer by myself. The B series look easy to trailer, but will they hold up as well as a 3010? Ed
