Wooly,
I own a little YM1401 that is one neat little tractor. Its only 2wd and has R1's in back and rib fronts and it turns easier than my 25hp Kubota (20hp at pto) with power steering. It needs more weight up front to do any sort of lifting and I recently hung two 42# weights on it so it can turn with a blade or rake on back.

As you know these old Yanmars were rice-paddy tractors and wet, boggy conditions were what they were built for with little one's like mine set up for tilling. The man I purchased mine from had already sold the tiller.
This little Yanmar fires right up every time. No preheating just pull its compression release, hit the ignition, release the compession release and she's up and running. My Kubota takes a little coaxing more often than not. Because of the transmission gearing on both I believe either could run my 5ft CountyLine rotary tiller but my little Yanmar lifts up the front end instead of the tiller.

My Kubota pulls it around and runs it set to full depth without straining but it has a front loader for counter balance.
You can add weights to the front of these little tractors to offset that and get blades for shoving snow around that aren't nearly has heavy as a loader and shouldn't require power steering or 4wd to manage. I changed the belt, hoses, and fuel lines on my little Yanmar, flushed the radiator and changed all fluids and filters. It didn't have a 3-pt hitch on it so I purchased one from Hoye. Front wheels were shot so I removed them, cleaned up the rims, replaced the tubes and tires, put new bearings and seals, etc. and doubled my initial investment by the time it was serviced! Probably stuck with her now.
