Macallan 12 neat
That's a good call! for those who want a bit smoother/sweeter taste the Jameson Irish whiskey is quite tasty for a reasonable price. Personally I like sipping a fine tequila. Took about 30years to retry tequila after a bad experience at a college party. :duh:

Now I subscribe to the theory of buy quality and sip slowly. Oh but no ice. If you do acquire a taste for a nice scotch, experiment sipping neat vs. putting a skosh of water (like a teaspoon) and notice the taste difference. A good whiskey or tequila should not be watered down in my book. :drink:

I learned all about sipping quality tequila when I was working in Mexico. It truly is refreshing and relaxing. I like about 2 fingers of a nice anejo tequila with a quarter lime freshly squeezed in it. The lime takes away all the bite. I introduced my wife to them and she calls them espresso margarita's.

And for more of a dessert tequila get extra anejo! Expensive but yummy... at least to me. I am counting down as we are off to Mexico Wednesday for 10 days vacation. Gotta dry out and warm up. Just might have a sip or so down there, you think? Will be staying in Puerto Vallarta which is only about 4 hours drive from Tequila, Mexico... the birthplace. Been trying to convince the wife to make a side trip but she isn't biting.

My tastes have changed alot over the years. I went from Jack daniels to absolut. From there it was beer for awhile, Corona, then yuengling, then Bud. Then for a few years I made my own wine, much better than anything store bought. Now I've been stuck to my Jagermeister. Ice cold from the deep freezer, with a sip of Dr pepper first and then a sip of jager. Noooo tequila for me, always made my clothes fall off

Okay sorry but not too late for the OP to try something outside the box, I mean cask. On topic... You may venture to try a Japanese whiskey. Hibiki is a good one.

Personally, my favorite cold weather sipping libation (not a "whiskey") is Cognac (along with a nice cigar)...

I like most quality bourbons with just a splash of branch water (no ice)...but it's all about the water quality...IMO, just a splash of the right natural branch water can enhance the taste of even high quality bourbon...it all about the water...!

Used to stay at the El Presidente Hotel on Reforma in Mexico City, when their on business. Many times, after a great dinner, we would stop taxi at the Hard Rock, a couple of blocks from hotel, and finish evening sipping some fine Herradura tequila for a nightcap. The HR had a VIP Bar that was quiet so, you could have a pleasant conversation. Unfortunately it closed a couple of years ago.

Yep, a great cigar enhances a great bourbon, or tequila, or whatever your end of the day brings.
