If you live in the rural Mound city area and have to get to uptown Memphis for work in the morning, it definitely has something to do with rural living.

My wife and I drove over this bridge the day before they found the crack on our way to North Carolina from Arkansas. My son in Arkansas sent me the story the day it came out and asked if I felt like buying a lotto ticket. We were also in the DC area when the gas pipeline fiasco was going on. We just returned from a 4 week 6500 mile driving trip to visit family. Someone was definitely watching over us.

Is the dog track still there is West Memphis just into Arkansas? Never been inside but have driven past on the way to I-55 many times.

Not sure, I normally don’t stop in west Memphis, or Memphis. Sometimes do hit the welcome center there.

Yup, about 5 miles from the bridge. I came through their around 5pm tonight Only a 15 minute delay headed south on 55. Traffic didn't start to back up till the 40/55 split.

Now headed west looked rough at 5pm. I'm not looking forward to working tomorrow in Memphis and headed home tomorrow night during rush hour.

Sounds like wheeling island in WV, used to be (maybe still is?) a dog track but now a casino.
Wheeling suspension bridge was recently closed because people keep ignoring the size and load limit signs.

Few years back, we had a bridge that was declared citical. They had a new one under construction, but it would be several more months. They put a 3 on limit on the old one ... basically a large pickup truck as long as it was empty. My Taurus wagon with a 4x8 trailer and a few bags of concrete was close to the limit. Even the small UPS and FedEx vans could not use it.

They had marked state police units sitting at one end or the other 24 hours a day stopping anyone who was over size or weight.

Something like two months after the new one opened and before the old one could be demolished, it shifted on the footers at one end and dropped about 6 feet.

Was rolling through fb and saw this posting about a cracked TN bridge, and figured it was unlikely that there were two separate bridges involved.
Basically, it says that a man kayaking under it in 2016 took a picture, and upon hearing about the bridge recently, dug out the pic and took a closer look, and there it was, broken five years ago.

I’ve posted this before. I drove over this bridge in a pickup a few days before this pic. I wish I could remember what it was posted, but I paused to do the math on the pickup I was driving, it was something like 4or 5 tons.
