I bought my 08 2500HD for around $30K, but sticker was in the $40k range. This was when GM was about to go under. I won't buy a new GM after what the Gov't did to them.
Who can afford a new truck anymore?

I look at it more as what they and the government teamed up and did to the US taxpayer. GM was not a victim of the situation...

$60,000.00 for a truck? No thanks. I'll buy a used old beater if I have too.
My dad bought my 1992 Chevy Silverado used for $5,000.00 around 11 years ago.
He bought it for himself but then gave it to me for my 18th Birthday. He got another used Chevy Same year. Couldn't get the paper work straightened out on it so he scrapped it out.
My old Chevy has the hood and now the engine from his other Chevy we scrapped.
Had main bearing failure this winter probably due to antifreeze getting into oil. But other than that it's been a good truck. Still needs a tune up after putting in the other engine but will start and run fine down the road. It just takes a bit to get it going first thing.
I'll drive the truck into the ground. If I have to put a few rebuilt Transmissions and more engines in it I will.
If I do need to replace the truck in the future. I'll buy another used one. New ones are nice but way to pricey for me.
The engine I put in it had 200k miles on it already before putting it into my truck. So if the engine lasts another 200k miles for me I'll be happy.

A wise decision for such a young whipper-snapper
Believe me - I've driven my share of beaters along the way. God has been good to me, so I am entering retirement in pretty good shape. I'm not one to generally throw large sums of money at non-necessities - but - I haven't had a new vehicle in a long time. I would not have done this if I had to borrow the funds.
I was looking for a truck to tow my (small) tractor around last fall. I was looking for 3/4-ton options, but new heavy-duty trucks optioned the way I wanted them were in the $60k's and even lightly-used examples still seemed ridiculously expensive to me.
I figured that I could get away with a ~10k# towing capacity. I ended up finding a 2003 1500 HD. It's the fully-loaded 'LT' model with 180k miles I got it for a bit under $10k.
I love it, but now I've ordered a new 14k# GVWR trailer. My current truck is rated to tow my tractor on it, however I'd like to pick up a bigger truck to be able to fully utilize it. But how do I justify that expense for a truck that will sit for weeks at a time?

Got kids? Keep it in a garage, well maintained, they may want it one day.

I recently finished truck shopping with no new truck to show. Just couldn't do it. Major sticker shock and a lot of technical electronics. I was very disappointed in one thing the most though all the GM s and dodges I looked at were made in Mexico! So I started checking around and found that ford and the Toyota Tundra are the only ones still with at least 70 % American content and assembled here. I mean come on a brand new dodge 3/4 ton priced over 60 grand and it doesn't even help American jobs?? Maybe I'm narrow minded or old school but I just can't do it. I think I'm the minority though because I'm seeing a lot of 3/4 ton dodge trucks. Funny thing is the ford priced out the best vrs dodge and GM for me.
