OK this weekend I tested my 2013 truck in snow. It has 4WD and a locker. I was concerned that the traction control would get me stuck, even if turned "off". Had to drive a mile up a logging road. There was 3 inches of new snow ontop of about 5 inches of older snow that had been packed a little by snowmobiles. On the hill, there were 8-10 inch deep ruts in the road below the snow, pretty bad conditions for hoping to maintain traction. So in the ruts the snow was much deeper. I have the stock tires, which are a "highway tread" but they are an "open tread" and are quite new. PlanB (if I got stuck) was to put on 4 tire chains. This section of the road was about 100yds of steep section to get ontop of the hill.

First attempt, when I hit the rough stuff (uneven ground, on an uphill) the traction control just shut me down. STUCK. So I reached over and pushed the traction control button & the dash said "TRACTION CONTROL OFF". I backed down the hill for the 2nd attempt. I decided I didn't like how quiet it was, couldn't tell what was happening so decided to do it in 1st gear.

Put it in 1st gear, revving higher and higher, then holding at about 5000rpm ( I guess, wasn't looking) and it flew up that hill, bouncing all over. A couple times I thought it would stop but it climbed out. Man I love this truck (and the sound too) it was a wicked V8 roar !

So 2013 FORD traction control passes the test.

yep up here in the land of perpetual snow that is what we do (both on my present 2014 GMC 4 x4 and on previous 2008 4 x 4 ram) When not on highway and snow conditions and hills are obstacle , just turn off the TC and Stability Control , and drive it the way a 4 x 4 should operate on snow and hills.........of note if you get above 35 mile per hour Stability kicks back on , but doing most of the snow covered rural hills above 35 is not required unless you want to hit the ditch after you crest the hills. We use the same technique with our car the Hyundai Elantra.

Congratulations on your new 2014 F150, Sodo. I just got one myself back in October, and it works great! Make sure you get those Michelin X ice tires for the winter, and you will be virtually unstoppable.

And thanks, guys, for the info about holding the traction control button down for a few extra seconds in order to turn off all of the other control systems. I didn't know you could do that!

I will have to find a place to try it out and report back.

Another thing that I love about my 2014, which I did not have on my 2010, is Ford Sync, whereby you can answer the phone or make a call using voice commands with only one button on the steering wheel. Very convenient on the highway, as there is minimal distraction, and you can just leave your Cel phone in your pocket and let the truck to do all the work of communicating with the Cel phone (via Bluetooth), looking up contacts, and dialing for you.

Oh, yeah, and I love that 5.0 L V8 roar too! It seems to have gobs of power, and is great for passing on the highway. Glad I did not pay the extra money for the Eco Boost, because my 5.0 gets about 21 miles per gallon on the highway.

Good price, too! Lease cost before tax is just over 400 per month for a super crew XLT with the 302A package, zero down, and 25,000 km per year mileage allowance (That's about 15,000 miles.)

I didn't try holding it down, (forgot). Thanks for the reminder!
