I have a log house and I find minwax helmsman spar urethane to last the longest. It isn't cheap but it still looks good on my cedar log house after 10 years of hard winters..

Sikkens is the answer ! I get it in 5 gallon pails. Really good stuff but you have to follow the instructions for application.

Ten years would be great, but reading through the other TBN thread warns not to use urethane base! I wounder if siding is different than logs in terms of coatings. There is a log home dealer 30 miles from here I may pay a visit to and see what they say.
The Sikkins is highly recomended so I am looking into it as well but not sure from their website if it is a one coat or multiple coat finish.

Sikkins is good stuff, never used it myself. The log home place will have what you need.. I bought the minwax to try on my porch, it lasted so I put it on the house after a corn cob blast in 2010, probably have to put it on again next spring.. it holds up a lot better than others I have tried.

This is the Sikkens stain I used on our log siding. Sikkens Proluxe Cetol SRD Stain | Twin Creeks Log Homes
Its all about the prep work though in putting this stain on. They have small sample cans you can get for color choice.
They are close to Johnson City, TN. I drove the 2 hrs to pick it up.

I tried some Ready Seal for the first time this spring on a 25 year old P/T deck. Goes on really nice, no worries to keep a wet edge, and is oil based. No clue how it will hold up, but so far, impressed with it. I generally favor transparent penetrating sealers vs. "coatings" on natural wood.

you can get vinyl siding with a wood look, no maintenance except for cleaning, and no insects making nests in it, no woodpeckers drilling holes in it..
