Who makes the longest lasting stain

you can get vinyl siding with a wood look, no maintenance except for cleaning, and no insects making nests in it, no woodpeckers drilling holes in it..

He has cedar, bugs don't bother cedar much. My log house is cedar logs, I have no insect issues but I wouldn't buy another log home, maintenance is a pain.. It's a very strong house and can withstand weather than most can't but lots of up keep..

Ive been using this stuff for the past 20 years and it has held up well. Good absorption. Expensive though.

There are a lot of variables affecting stain durability.

I have cedar shingles, which is why I mentioned this!. it's crazy trying to keep out the insects, especially the yellow jacket wasps, and the woodpeckers love to make holes all the way to the insulation under the plywood!!..

I use Ready Seal with good success.

I'll have to second that. It also delivers on it advertisement, it is goof proof.
Regardless of application method.
The cedar fence (on the house property we just sold) was done using a 2 gallon garden sprayer. It needed a touch up three years later.

The cedar on our gate entryway on our homestead was with a brush. The brush method seems to apply a greater amount of coating to the wood and has help up longer to the brutal triple digit summers we've had, going on three years now.
So the spray method works well but does not apply as much material as a brush or roller.

MAN!!! - I CAN NOT RECOMMEND ANY URETHANE PRODUCT ON A CEDAR HOME. I have an all cedar timber home - PanAbode out of Redmond, WA. I tried urethane about twenty years ago. Created the most awful, huge bubbles you ever saw. Within two years - most all the urethane had bubbled off.

Now I use InWood semi-translucent oil stain. I get this at either Lowes or Home Depot. Wait until the very hottest part of the summer - wash the exterior down with an extended car wash brush on a garden hose. Let the house dry for two weeks.

Put the stain on with a very soft fuzzy roller. It's been sixteen years now and the cedar still looks OK. Last time I used Coffee stain InWood.

Look beyond the "Taco Wagon". That's the SE side of the PanAbode.

Never had bubbles, ever..

As it was explained to me - cedar timbers "breathe".... urethane does not. Therefore - bubbles/blisters.

I think it depends on the age of the cedar, mine never bubbles, I corn cob blast before I stain..

For sure....the carpenter bees & woodpeckers could care less if it's cedar! I think they actually prefer it....

They don't bother cedar logs that's all I can tell ya..
