Don't get me started on carpenter bees!
We have a lot of stained wood on our house and two different finishes. The stuff that had Minwax stain and spar varnish held on for 4 years before starting to look rough. The stuff with Sikkens has held on for 6+ years and I just began refreshing some of it this year (porch rails and other horizontal surfaces). Other woodwork with Sikkens that is out of the sun (beams and brackets) still looks great. Even the stuff in partial sun looks good. Sikkens tends to just fade lightly with time and won't peel or flake or do anything that gets in the way of future maintenance.
And for an interesting twist -- some of our porch columns that had stain and spar varnish were looking rough, so three years ago I slapped sikkens on top of one of them, as a test. I had power washed it but made no attempt to do any other prep (it's rough sawn pine, so any other prep would be a challenge). The Sikkens went over the top and looked good. It was tacky for about a week, then hardened up and three years later still looks great. So I feel like I stumbled on a solution for those columns that defies logic.
I really like Sikkens. Home Depot has it and I ordered online with free delivery. I use the Cetol SRD, Teak color.
