I picked up the same canopy as you - I liked the shape & heaved all the parts that came with it - and was able to take the decal off with a heat gun (just warm them up). Have the same issue with the water / drip edge, but have not come up with a solution yet.
I mounted my lights directly to the canopy, but reinforced that area with 2 layers of fiberglass first. The switches were implanted in the rops & all the wiring was hidden pretty well - the main feed is inside the rops. It is hinged at the back end which allows it to fold & stay level in the process.
