Who's got a log splitter that they run off the PT?

I like the saddle for loading your wood, my Wallenstein splitter runs off the hydraulics and is fast enough for me. lol but I will be 63 in a couple of months, lol. It also has a saddle, my cousin is going to add the saddle to his.

There are plenty of pictures online of upside down splitters mounted on skid steers.

On its side is an interesting idea.

It does bother me to think of a 45 - 60 HP engine running a small wood splitter. But if it is not used much, it makes some sense especially if you do a large portion of chunking where you might use the tractor and then do your splitting. I have a splitter that was run off of the tractor's hydraulics. It is just a beam that sits in the ground. I thought it would be good for really big rounds. But using the splitter vertically works pretty well on the big stuff.

We have a splitter that runs off the rear remotes up at deer camp. My only complaint is that it gets HOT. It’s an old splitter that has been up there for decades and it’s used once or twice a year. If it ever breaks we would probably buy a PTO unit

Here are some pictures of my log splitter running on PTO. I went this route so as to not to have another small engine to keep operational. Works on any of my tractors with PTO except my Farmall Cub. My 135 diesel runs just above idle.

A few questions...

Did you make it yourself (Pictures please)

What remote do you use to power it (Dump/Tilt or PTO)

What would you do different?

I'm thinking some people are thinking the title of this thread is asking if they're running their splitter off of their PTO.

The PT in the thread title stands for Power Trac.

But it's still interesting to see other folks' splitters.

Power Trac has a number of attachments that run of the hydraulics so I am sure they could come up with something. I expect the hold up is to bring one to market at a price point that would sell. I for one would be interested but it have to be at a price I could afford.

I've mentioned before that there are very few things that I don't want to do with my PT425. The only other things I have gas engines on are my log splitter and my generator, and a little trim mower for a small courtyard, weedeater and chainsaws. I like to use the PT425 to move firewood around while I'm splitting. And the only times we have power outages for any length of time is after storm damage, be it downed trees or snow. I want the machine available to do the cleanup while the generator is running.

Would you have pictures of the upside down splitter on the FEL quick dis-connect plate ? I would like to see that. I have some monsters to split. Thanks in advance.

Can’t find a pic but I’ll take a couple when I get a chance.
