Who's running foam filled tires?

Don't bother to use the houshold insulting type foam. I tried that route with no longterm success on the nose wheels of my old tricycle CASE VAC. I had to get the tires cut off the rim and the final solution for me was innertubes with 1/4 inch hard rubber lining cemented to the inside of the tire. Very good results.

How much weight does it add to the tire? If you foam your rear tires would it be enough to match the weight of rim guard or washer fluid?

Thanks for the feedback. I am going to get a price on the foam locally. My tires only have 75 hours, I think thats new enough to get the original one filled, with the new. I will report back, on what it ends up costing, and maybe get a brochure, to answer some questions about changing tires after they are foamed.

My understanding is that there are different weights of foam. If you are willing to give up some weight you can get a softer ride.

When I did take my tires in Les Schwab said it would be better to fill new ones so I went that route. Then if I wear them out I can just get them recapped. It will take a long time at my rate of use. I park the tractor out of the sun even so the tires won't be drying out and cracking from that. Good luck with yours.

The fronts are filled on my TC29 D and I am very happy with their performance. They are not rock hard and give a decent ride. When I lift a full bucket of dirt they will bulge on the bottom only slightly, however, if I drive over a sharp obstacle like a rock, for instance, they will still flex.

Just got a quote on a new 10x16.5 import tire $189.00 Firestone $219.00. To have them filled $170.00 each. Still looking.

I did not put foam in my Yanmar tires but in the rear tires I had Firestone add a heavy, thick inner liner. It has worked well for about 7 years with no flats, before I would get large thorns that would penetrate or occasionally steel.

In case anyone is interested in the foam filled tires. I ended up getting one new 10x16.5 no name brand r4 tire for $166.00 total. I found a tire guy who would send out the tires to be foam filled for $106.00 each. The foam they use in this size tire is not as hard as they use in bigger tires. The tire man looked at my old tire (74 hrs,) and said it was in good enough shape to have it filled. The reason for having new, or like new tires, is just for the wear factor. He recommended that once the tires had a little less than half an inch of tread left, I have them retreaded. I also asked him about the durability of the retreads. He maintains that retreads are 100% better than just a few years ago. He also maintains that the main reason for tread separation is heat, and speed, which will not be a factor in my tires. The only downside I see right now, is that the tires will weigh close to 200#, and I have to put them on in a muddy field 2 miles back in the woods.

Now that IS a problem. Better you than me :).
