I just keep mine in the lowered to the rear in the first notch and leave it there. (not all the way down) I think it is high enough to protect me if there is ever a roll over, just duck down an inch or two, if there is an emergency roll over.

That's a storage position, not operational. I'm not sure it would have any effect at all in a rollover, rather than just shearing the pins and collapsing.
