Why do people not want to work?

These guys needed clear DMV to be on company insurance and this eliminated majority... Many had DUI or other vehicle... Some needed to be Bondable too. Drug and Alcohol issues responsible for most of it.

In Charleston we have a "Jail Birds" paper that came out once a month..
Had a mugshot & the offence of anyone that got arrested the prior month.. {Seems like an invasion of privacy to me.}
Anyway, I was flipping thru it 1 evening while sitting at the local watering hole.. & lo & behold there was a picture of the companies "road mechanic".!!
It stated that was his 3rd DWI.!!! He was fired the following week.. No license, no work..
A competitor picked him up & just stuck him in their rebuild shop.. no road work.. THEIR GAIN, our lose..

While I understand the objective of a minimum wage, it seems to me that the underlying rationale is flawed. I never considered an entry level, common labor labor job as something I could use to support a family. They were a means to an end, and the work was commensurate with my knowledge and skills...strong back, weak mind sounds familiar. I have done a lot of things to get by; farm work, like shoveling manure, plowing, bucking bales, harvesting wheat, driving truck, etc. Construction work; from painting houses to checking groceries. During all this time I was going to college; later married, raising a family and holding down a full time job. Four years of law school at night. I never made a lot of money working for the state, but I made enough to get by, raise a family and make a contribution to my state and community.

High minimum wage is just another government subsidy that lowers the incentive to improve yourself, your knowledge and skills and the desire to get up and go.

The people starting out that need six flat screen TVs in their house and cell phones plus plans for everyone will probably never amount to anything. I will never forget an investment advisor in the 80s telling me. There are two kinds of people, those that pay interest and those that earn interest. I never forgot that.

What are interesting is automation that comes everywhere, here all post offices are gone, most of the bank offices are gone, tax offices gone, A lot of goverment jobs are gone as a lot of the paperwork is automated away, shops are automating, accounting jobs will be a pure massacre as integration between banks, goverment and software companies get up to speed, the government is adjusting many regulations so it can work without human workforce based on DIY solutions online.

Yep. Here too.

Times have changed. Folks learned to work on the farm, babysat, bagged groceries, delivered newspapers, bused tables, etc during their teen years. Nowadays, kids want to go from living at home with free food and being entertained when they're not in the classroom directly to a career job with benefits. They commonly expect everyone else at work to make their jobs more fun. TV does. Spacebook does. Soccer does. But, lacking social skills, many don't 'fit in' and give up too easily.

Attitude is everyth9ng. Every time you give up, you gain a chance to prove yourself. Sad to say the digital revolutions is making loners out of us, and too often judgemental ones because popular media trade on stirring up controversy and wealth envy. Neither is good for America, is it? We Yanks are becoming classist under our King, and IMO that's a gateway attitude toward racism. btw, I don't think meth is getting here in back packs, nor do I see running it as a career job.

I have seen those in a number of towns and think they are inappropriate. Gone seems to the presumption of innocence. Convictions I would understand, arrests often get tossed out.

I have mixed feelings about it. It's a public matter. We should know who is convicted and why. On the other hand, things are rarely as they appear and justice is certainly never handed out fairly. In a sense, punishment might encompass how much harm comes to the convicted through publicity. Some it might not harm at all, and others stand to loose plenty.

Minimum wage can be over $16 an hour here.

A young single working mom works cleaning offices. She was overjoyed when minimum went up but that was short lived. Her Day Care cost went up because the Day Care workers all got raises.

One of my friends keeps automating as wages increase...

The winners seem to be those that are positioned to gain from inflation

It's a short term win fall, but it sure buys votes.
