Hello , my name is Adam and am new to TractorByNet site. I am a new tractor owner and need some pointers on some maint. on my tractor. Will start with this: why does my tractor have tow oil filters? and where should I look for the tractor year and model of my tractor. thanks

Most likely one oil filter, one hydraulic filter. As an example my tractor has 3 filters, one oil, one hydraulic filter, and one filter just for the the Hydostatic transmission.

There is a gentleman on here whose handle is soundman that is an expert in the older Ford tractors. You might send him a PM if you have anything specific you need. Like the location of the Ident plates, or perhaps he will see this thread Welcome to TBN

are you sure you are not seeing a dual filter head with 2 fuel filters on it? perhaps you have a early 3000 and it has it's oil filter hidden under a canister on the sid eof the engine instead of a regular spin on.

look at the 3 pics I post. first 2 show 2 white filters on my 3000.. they are fuel filters.. is this what you are seeing on the right side?

on the last pic.. it is left side.. look above the front tire, below the hood, and aft of the black generator.. that 'canister' is the oil filter for a early model.

post back.. or post some pics.

also.. under the moveable hood part that covers the battery there should be an id tag with model id and sn.

that info is also stamped on the clutch/trans bellhousing flat aft of the starter..

post back the info / numbers found there. early 3000 units will have a 3 as the first digit of the model ID.. later units 4-68 or newer will have a model ID starting with C.

sn's can start with the letters A, B, or C.. A for antwerp belgium, B for basildon england, or C for here in america. most units I see are C sn prefix, with some B and a very occasional A.

Ty for your reply. My filter is on the left side, as in your third pic. Will try and send a pick in a few days. I believe now, one is an oil filter and the other is a transmission filter. They are just in close proxemity to each other, but today I traced the device that one filter is attached and it had a line going to opposite side of tractor and into the transmission housing. Will also get the numbers from under the hood and let you know what they are. Sorry for being so simplistic, just my first tractor.

Question: when I am bushing, and I run across palmettos or even lesser type of weeds, my pto will jump out of gear. I reduce the rpms and try to put it back into gear you can hear it grinding, but it does go into gear until I hit the next patch of rough weeds. What do u think the problem is?
Thanks

are you sure you have a 3000 and not a 3600. there is a hyd pump up there on the left that could have a filter in colse proximity to the engine oil filter.

as for the pto jumping out.

with machine off, and nothing hooked to the pto, grab the pto stub and pull/push on it and see if it has any in/out movement.

if so, it will allow itself to walk it's sliding dog clutch out of engagement, and eventually chew up the pto shaft spline and the dog clutch, and I have even seen it mushroom the inner end of the pto shaft from the slap, making it VERY HARD to remove the shaft.

usually the in / out is from a slipped wear ring, or a slipped C-clip aft of the bearing, less often it is from a damaged bearing carrier, not holding hte c-clip in it's groove. and even less often it is from a bad bearing. if the bearing is bad it likely has side to side play as well as the in / out, and this usually menas in need sit's pto seal repalced as the bad bearing will allow the shaft to hog out the seal.

other possibilities are a bad detent not holding the shaft linkage engaged.

ps.. pto shaft rehad is pretty easy on a manual gear tranny... either as a repalcement assy or some parts and 20 minutes on the bench..
