Says someone who is too young to have experienced (or too old to remember) the winter storms that struck NC in 1960.;) I grew up in Iredell County, and we had significant snow/sleet on three consecutive Wednesdays in March.

No school, perfect sledding conditions -- those were the days.:)

I grew up in South Mills, Camden County, in 1958 we 18" of snow in mid December, by Christmas Eve the Pasquatank river was frozen in waves in Elizabeth City, the Dismal Swamp Canal was frozen to the point of being able to drive a car on it in places.

Remember the 21 inches we got in 2001. Man, the roads were messed up for over a weeks. My friend at work had a ford dually and he got recruited for taxi service for several days to get folks to and from work.

Duallys are useless in snow, ice or mud compared to single rear tires.

My mom and dad talk about that 1960 snow in March Steve...
I was a little over 1 year old at the time...
Now, I do remember the winter of 87 I believe...
We got 14 inches at the time and was shut down a week...
That was an abnormality to say the least...
And we had ice in the early 90's and my power was out 4 days in February...
Generators come in handy...

We'll have more big storms in the next 10 or 20 or 40 years.
Whether or not you believe we're responsible for accelerated global warming, the warmer water and air will be great for the ski industry.

We had 23 inches of snow in 1973 and had to rescue all them Yankees stranded on I-95. They would have all froze to death. So I reckon they can't drive to well in the snow too.

That must be the first relatively big snow that I remember. I believe it stayed on the ground for a month in shady places.
