Why Kubota over others?

Thank you for the feedback!

I would pay about an extra $12K between the Kubota I am interested and a lesser known brand like LS. But, with my less than stellar history with LS and the fact that the LS dealer is a 35 min drive away, while my Kubota dealer is six min away....it may be worth the extra money for the nearby dealer and what seems to be a much better reliability in Kubota.

Kubota is at or near the top for reliability, resale value, serviceability, dealer network/parts ...they are pretty much unbeatable except on pricing.

I paid around $55K CDN for a JD 5425 cab, 24 x 24 reverser with 542 loader in 2008. My dealer currently has a used, low hour almost identical 2008 5425 cab, 12 x 12, w/ 542 on the lot, and is priced at $69.5K.
I'll stick with green, thanks. I appreciate the appreciation!

Oh, and has anything gone wrong with it? Nope.

That tractor only has 74 hours on it lol, it's practically new. My tractor has depreciated at a rate of $1100 per year since new. Well not sure what it was new, new one today is 37-40k

Yep and it may be more sought after than new , its pre TierIV

Those new or nearly new units without the emissions regs are getting scarcer than hens teeth, especially when sold by dealer with warranty

So it's the emissions that's driving the price up and not brand or even model.

If trump repeals the tier 4 emissions the market on those tractors will drop faster than an anvil threw a glass floor.

That's what I am beginning to understand.

My LS is still in the shop. They're having to order a new ECU. If that doesn't work to fix it, they said they have no idea what to do, lol...but they suspect LS would replace the tractor. I feel at this point they should replace it anyways, lol!

Umm, I doubt that. The reason I bought a new one back in 2008 was because the used ones I looked at, specifically recall a 2000 vintage JD 5420, cost virtually as much as a brand new 5425 at that time. This is all long before Tier IV played a part in the decision making.
Would they not still be sought after now for their lack of DPF and urea?
It's the 74 hrs on a 9 year old tractor that gets me. What has it been doing for all that time? Obviously, not much, lol.
If Tier IV gets repealed, which I doubt would happen, I wonder what that would mean for all the existing diesels out there; if there would be throngs of people deleting the emissions equip. from their current Tier IV machines.
Watch, if it does happen the govt will likely keep it illegal to mess with existing emissions equip. on already built and sold machines.

When I bought my first Kubota looked at all but one brand which just did not interest me. I did not find the Kubota or JD to be that much more than an I will say off the wall brand tractor. I hearit all the time the Orange and Green Paint is expensive, maybe it is but for me neither have proven to be if comparing comparable tractors. But the concept there is little difference in the quality of say Kubota, Case, JD with all other brands does not make sense. Will you argue the Poulan or such chain saws sold by Lowes or Home Depot is same quality as Husky or Stihl?

Now if you will be using the tractor or chain saw a couple of tanks of fuel in the year and it matters not if down for a few days or longer due to lack of support or parts available buy the lowest price and brag how good you did on price. Remember cheap price does not always mean low cost.

But it goes beyond simply brand. I have smaller Stihl saws that are just plastic consumer garbage and larger sturdy well-built saws, also Stihl.

When traditional hard-working tools like tractors and pick-up trucks became consumer items, things really got messed up. I'm appalled looking at my latest JD monthly magazine, Homestead. I see a TLB with front wheels smaller than the rear wheels of my tricycle at age 5. To me, that is just a bad joke or something out of a dream, except, that's the reality for this consumer segment market.

To me, it would be like Winchester offering a rifle with aluminum barrel, maybe a thin steel or alloy liner, stamped parts, also of some inferior alloy, a press-board stock and maybe a cheap plastic scope. And actually, put the Winchester name on it. A crooked stick-on decal would suffice. How wrong would that be? And yet, people would buy it, because now they OWN a Winchester.

Hey man it's all about brand recognition.

A guy sees loggers using a Stihl chainsaw and walks into a dealer and sees a 2-3k sticker on a big one and looks down to see the farm boss version that's only $400, he's gonna buy that one because it's the same color as the ones loggers use.

The same goes for everything else, perfect example, my dad brought up last week when I was changing blades on my husky that my sister asked him what mower to buy a few weeks prior, he told her that he has had good luck with JD (owns and bought new, a 445 premium garden tractor with just over 1000 hours) so her and her BF went to a dealership and bought a D series JD, I said they did what?!?!? Lol

I strait up told him the D series is junk and frankly I'm surprised a JD dealer would carry them, maybe that model has a better deck or something being sold in a dealer vs big box store idk.

He said don't tell them that.

People think just because it has the same name on it as commercial equipment that it's just as good at a fraction of the cost via the consumer market.

Mate, I understand what you were eventually getting at... it's in your last sentence.

However, your Sister & BF asked for advice from a respected source (Father). She took that advice and went to a Dealership and bought a "D" series.

I also don't see what the problem in owning a "D" series Lawn Tractor is. I've owned mine for just over 4 years (150hrs) with absolutely no problems/breakdowns. It does everything that I've needed it to do, it's solidly built and it's never been in need of repair. Not "junk" at all.

If I buy an MS180 and try to cut down a large oak, I will end up complaining about Stihl "junk." However, if I take my 066 out and cut down the oak and then use the 180 to trim branches, I'll proudly talk about my Stihl chainsaws. Sometimes, it is the error of the operator that determines how good something is.

I would not try to uproot trees with a BX tractor. If I did, and it failed, the complaint should fall on me; not on the tractor.

I think we sometimes do a very poor job of matching work with equipment.

Locally, we have a New Holland and Mahindra dealer - but the sales person does not seem to be very encouraging and even steered me away from Mahindra to look only at New Holland. I guess my interests weren't important enough.

We have an LS and Massey dealer, but he doesn't stock Massey because they are too expensive compare to LS. The problem is that he is closed on weekends - when I am most likely to need his shop to be open.

The John Deere and Kubota dealer, however, is friendly and open. They listen and respond. I am not interested in attachments that are not SSQA, so green is out for me. (and this dealer has Stihl equipment - a plus)

While all tractors are capable if I know what I want, the difference may well be in the dealership rather than in the tractor.

That all depends on what you're doing with it. I bet I could tear one up inside of 2 hours with the kind of abuse my commercial Kubota takes and begs for more. But it wasn't a fair comparison because my deck probably cost more than the whole JD machine.

Over thirty years ago I bought my very first chainsaw, a Husky 50cc Homeower type 16" saw. I cut a lot of wood for 20 years with that saw.

In the last 15 years I gone thru 3 Husky saws, not junk but not as well built as that first saw. It is the last 10% of cost cutting that killed the quality. The current saw in a Rancher. I know I should have gotten a pro saw, or at least an higher end Stihl, but I got the Rancher on a closeout. Husky still makes a good pro saw, but the homeowner saws are not what they used to be. Their Rancher line is not a real serious saw. Sthil makes a line of saws just below their Pro logger saws, that have not been cheaped out like the Huskies IMHO.

Getting back to tractors, I'm sure gad I got the L39TLB, because I would have gone thru at least 2-3 regular CUTS in the +2000 hours of hard use.

Exactly. My D110 was specifically bought to mow around my house & property... I then found that it was great at mulching the chain-harrowed horse 'droppings', so it does double duty doing that. Third use is pulling a cart with my portable generator to where I need it. That's all I'm going to use it for, so a 'low end' D110 fits my purpose.

Anything larger and I'll mount-up the slasher on the 4105.

I would never buy another Kubota unless it is used and a great deal.

Parts prices are stupid and the dealers are all owned by one company that does not dicker.

Good for them but maybe not because I have a great Kioti machine now that I really enjoy.

My local Kubota dealer is independent, they were a JD dealer about 15 years ago before switching to Kubota.

Well, you enjoy your tractor and I'll enjoy my Kubota's.
