Is the quesition of human nature in general or in reference to recent threads here? )

Just human nature in general. Communication is a learned skill and most folks just aren't that good at it, myself included. We listen with the intent to respond with our point of view rather than listening with the intent to understand what the other person is saying. Political conversations tend to be two people having a one-way conversation.

Re: Why people can\'t discuss politics politely

John, I'd say you're probably pretty good at communication, since you just described the situation very well, especially with that second sentence.

This must be about thread number 100 on this subject; apart from TBNer posting here just for stats it makes light entertaining reading.

As I am an atheist and also support anarchy I would not enjoy debate about religion or politics but any other subject will do

Well said!

I plead guilty.....even at that I'd like to think I can keep my calm with such discussions, but I really landed in the dog house the time I called my wife a Pinko for her view on a particular issue....so, maybe I'm even worse than the next guy?.....maybe, I'm just nicer on the web than real life? /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif You're right, we don't need any off track topics when we have "word association" and threads titled "none" /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I just checked on "none" and it looks like it's actually growing old naturally instead of getting the grim reaper. Don't know why, I just found that fact neat. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gifNow it seems to me the atheist anarchist would particulary enjoy reading about people flaming either other over such topics? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Yep, better keep my mouth shut [err...keyboard restrained??] so you don't have too much fun at my expense! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: Why people can\'t discuss politics politely

I would also add that everyones experiences are different, and even if "life circumstances/experiences" are similar, perceptions are varied as the individual.

I will never know what it's like to be a black man (or any other minority/nationality) living in the United States.

Now, if you want to compare cultures, the U.S is very "unique" compared to other societies in the world /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

But hey, I own guns, married a woman, never collected unemployment in my life (NOT that there is anything wrong with it if it is truley needed), and beleive in God...come to think of it, I am becoming a minority /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Re: Why people can\'t discuss politics politely

seems like politics abd religion are 2 sujects that get to be not so polite after a bit. I AM GLAD IT IS NOT TOLERATED ON THIS FORUM (EXCEPT FOR AN OCCCOSINAL REFERENCE) SEEMS LIKE IT GETS WAY OUT OF HAND VERY QUICK. there are many sites for this type of coversation and you can go at it till your hearts content.

( Mac's are for women who just "use" the computer as a tool and want it to just work. PC's are for men and their like the "new" hot rods. Make 'em faster, soup 'em up, mod 'em, put 1001 different OS's on the same hardware.)
LOL !!!!

(You do know that the first image that comes up on the link you posted has a Mac and PC in the same case right ? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif)
