Actually my Ignore List is based upon violations of TBN Rules/Terms of Use. If you choose not to have an Ignore List that's your prerogative. Here's an idea, perhaps a TBN Universal Ignore List (UIL) could be developed? Instead of banning the trolls management could put them on the UIL. The trolls could post but nobody would be forced to read their crap... call it a compromise.

When do you put someone on your ignore list? How many offences to violations of Rules/Terms of use? How are you interpreting Rules/Terms of use?

See where I am going with this? Sounds like - a moderator job.

IMO the four or five whiners and complainers are as offensive as those that cross the rules line...it's just too easy to NOT read what one doesn't want to...it's the school marm syndrome...!

That said...closing popular threads is punishing everyone for the faults of a few which IMO is entirely unfair...(the mean warden syndrome)...

What I suggest is a simple "demerit system" (like points on a driver's license)...get a set amount of demerits and face a suspension or in extreme cases a ban...If a mod has to remove an offensive post a demerit is given....If it is not obvious, reasons for removal should be cited so it's made clear what rule was broken...

As for like/dislike apps....Internet message boards are a petri dish for personality conflicts and like/dislike functions only give the users an outlet to exhibit/express said conflicts...

Putting trolls on the UIL would be a moderator job.

Putting trolls on the UIL would be a moderator job.

Then what your asking for is moderation and the power for the moderators to banish "trolls".

You are going to have to better define troll. In my history here, IMHO, I have seen posts from posters, like a one-off that should not have been tolerated.

One word can cost someone their privilege of contribution.

No, not one time or even twice. But a history of being a dick should equate to banishment. Maybe a 2 week banishment at first but eventually permanent.

Since that is directed toward me I will respond. I complain and ask people to abide by the rules only if there is an interesting thread going and those certain few are going to get it shut down. It happens time and again.

I'm not in favor of banning people for other than Spam or credible personal threats of harm.

Effective editing of posts would be sufficient in most cases. Take out the rule violating words or phrases with a Moderator note, but leave the rest of the post.

Complaining about people taking threads off topic and trying to re-rail the thread is not an issue. Complaining about those who try to do so is.

FYI it was directed towards the administration as per their request...It's funny you don't seem to acknowledge the hypocrisy of your own comments when you explicitly cite religious content as a no-no yet you start a thread that is entirely about a religious sect...go figure...!

The thread I started about the Amish is with the intent of discussing their culture and work ethic and how we interact with them as our neighbors without getting into their belief system.

Details/definitions TBD by TBN management. Here's some suggestive "constructive feedback".

Strike = violation of rules/terms of use

Strike 1 = a warning via private message.
Strike 2 = User Id added to the Universal Ignore List.
Strike 3 = Permanent banishment from TBN.

I fail to see how their culture and work ethic could possibly be separated from their religion. You are incredibly naive if you think it can be separated. I will spell out the basis of my statement: Their culture and work ethic are TOTALLY related to their religion. End of story.

Bah humbug.

Work ethic is built into a person. It is a trait, skill, learned, practiced and applied over time.

Culture is a community value system.

Religion is an individual, community belief system.

Since we are all individuals, cognizant and adaptive, one or all combinations can apply.

Piney, I have that problem as well, I was constantly confusing Jstpissing and Crazyheadsign, Now I think of them as "Michigan" and "Maine". Seems to solved the mix up for me.

Wow! This is the first closed thread that I ever had resurrected! I have never said TBN wasn't enjoyable anymore. I simply said not AS enjoyable anymore. Spending more time at home and alone now due to the virus, TBN sometimes gives me hours of pleasure reading different threads about everything from the best measuring tapes to how to make gumbo and how to fill tractor tires.

Posters on TBN have a lot more in common than posters on Facebook and some other forums and the majority think alike on most topics. There is always some disagreement on subjects, such as the best color tractor, but posters do not have to degrade other posters who they do not agree with on the subject. If X says Red tractors are the best and you think Green ones are better, you do not have to call X a moron for his opinion. You can just say you don't agree with him and state your reason why. Whenever you say something derogatory about someone on a thread, he is bound to respond in a retaliatory way increasing the friction and resulting in the thread being closed and your dislike for that poster will carry on to other threads resulting in others being closed. There are some posters who make me so angry at times I wish they were banned but then I will read an informative post by them on a different thread that makes me happy they weren't banned.

Many threads can have a comment in them that makes someone think it has a religious or political overtone, such as reciting the Declaration of Independence on Fourth of July, and no thread should be banned for what one person thinks is a broad political or religious that has no real intention of being so.

If there is one thing I think TBN should do, although it will really put the mods to work, is to delete any post in a thread where a poster says something derogatory about another poster causing a feud that will carry on for ages.

Here we go.............................yawn.

Nary a page unsullied. (Remind me what does labeling groups have to do with this or any thread they're not mentioned in the title of? Gotta bash somebody everywhere??)

Piney, please take your unfiltered racism where it's invited. That you'd labor us with your social & political beliefs ever included if not motivation to post is indeed free speech, but could we as adults let someone else's rules prevail in their place? (What are you like in churches, Casinos, airports, etc?)

IMO TBN might be more enjoyable if some people just stayed in their bunkers, parapets, turrets or towers, not that anyone in particular comes to mind. Well not that many ..

Other than Post Moderation previously mentioned, how about letting Thread Starters moderate their own threads. Let them clean up their own.

I only see 6 Moderators listed and at least one of them hasn't been active in a couple of years. I see 7 Admins listed, 4 of which I've never seen post and one only does Welcomes. I'm guessing the others are test accounts or handle software changes and updates.

Some of the Spam threads sit for hours before anyone acts.

That is a very good idea. Allow the OP to oversee the their thread content and 'prune' accordingly. I really like that. Prune to the point of removing offending or off subject comments, not removing any poster from the site. That has to be addressed by a moderator or the boss and no one else. Kind of like a selective ignore feature.

Moderation on any forum is a thankless job anyway. Every time you spank someone, they get pizzed and retaliate elsewhere so in my view, repeat offenders need to be removed and not allow back. First through 3 offense could be a trip to the cooler for say a week and habitual offenders get removed and put in the cooler forever.

I could be tough as I like to follow the rules but at the same time, sometimes a poster will post a comment that is emotionally charged and not think about the consequences. Those offenses need a knuckle slap, not a removal.

You can get a lot more flies with honey than you can with vinegar.

My view of things on here and on TNT as well.

As I have mentioned before, Me n Piney do not always see eye to eye, but I have re-read both of his recent comments in this thread and fail to see any unfiltered racism or social & political beliefs in either of them.
