Re: Why they don\'t wave

Hey DocsKnotInn isnt that a Yanar (japanese diesel between your legs?) ....I love japanese products !!

I love bikes..can you tell? I would have Harley in a heart beat
if they just offered somewhat current performance products.
Its fustrating to see them lack so far behind in basic technological advances. I feel their introduction of the V-Rod
fell short in many ways. Yes they went water cooled, but the suspension & brakes, I think my big wheel was better.
For years the japanese have cloned the harleys, and made them better for less. If Harley only made theirs better, and they wouldnt have to make it for less. The V-Rod harley copied Yamaha's V-Max ( I have a V-max). Its good to see them play catch up in a few areas. They rave at it's performance but the V-max did it back in 1985, faster and better. When the day comes when I feel I can ride a $20k
machine for 30k miles without a complete teardown, I will buy it. I love motorcylces and each type brings a different meaning to the table. The Ducati 996 (abeit these days somewhat outdated) brings the unique V twin sound. The V-Max brings real muscle with a big block sound. The harley thus far brings attititude- I need it to fill in the performance before I bite !!
Beside I'm never around long enough to see the wave
(Bluuurrr) !! so i dont take it personally...

Ducati996 (and Mr. V-Max) respectfully!!

Re: Why they don\'t wave

Yeah yeah thats a japaneese Diesel between my legs /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif What can you do. If their was a American version in my size I would take it. I just think its sour grapes that foreign companys are ruleing what we buy. I dont like it on a train, I dont like it on a plane, I just dont ike it sam I am /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif Yes, the japs build a good product at a flippin great price. I just wonder what price we will pay down the road. I'm confused though, do you have a Suzuki or a Vmax ? The Vmax is indeed a nice bike. ( sufferin succotash did I say that ?) I remember seeing the first BMW with anti locks at Daytona Bike week in the mid 80's. It was Very impressive. The golden eagle guys used to have a run and show down town at the same time. I dont think any of it is personal. I mean we each choose whats best for us. What fun would it be with out the Witty banter and competition ? I have owned several rice burners, no mechanical failures on any of them. In fact I bought a '82 suzuki new in the crate in '86 after my car got stolen and totalled. It was all I could afford at the time. I still miss that 442 olds Hurst factory special edition, T-tops and all /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif Dave

Re: Why they don\'t wave

If it makes you feel better, other countries don't like us ruling their countries either. Agco keeps buying up companies and taking them over and they feel the same way as you do. American companies keep buying up local companies and ruin their economy. CNH is based in the US even though it is Fiat owned they still operate the company from the USA so I guess it is an American company still. So the major tractor players are all American companies /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif (of course I am not sure how the CNH one is really deemed, I mean, they are owned by Fiat, yet run the company from the USA /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif)

"I was still seeing new import bikes in the crate (1982's) being sold as late as '86 for half the price with twice the warranty. Thats a tough deal to beat if youre looking for value."

Two things come to mind here. First, if the Japanese bikes were selling so well, why in the world would there be brand new 1982's still in their crates FOUR YEARS LATER? With inflation as it was then and discounts to move that aged inventory, I'd say half price of a new Harley would be about right.

Second, it would seem that one way to solve the competition offering twice the warranty would have been to build a more reliable product so that they could afford to warrant like that, too. Wouldn't that have been better for the American consumer than tarriffs to eliminate competition? Just a thought. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Oh... And by the way, I know that AMF was an American company. I never said or implied otherwise.

Re: Why they don\'t wave

I wished he had gotten a couple of the pics but he almost never carries a camera. My uncle told me tht all the Goldwingers had been calling his friends wife on the radio to tell her that her husband needed a GW to. Thats when the sign came out. He said his friend would have hacked open a finger and written it in blood if he didnt have the marker in the saddle bag he was so mad lol.
Im between I like rebuilding hogs and such but I like a trike myself, Not a Factory one either I love the homebuilt hope you can weld good trikes. Im building one right now well gatering plans and making drawingfs on the floor of a 155 HP v6 Buick powered trike with and automatic 4 link air ride suspnsion and a Chevette axle. I gotta find a nicer front end like I want. Most folks frown upon this.

Re: Why they don\'t wave

The Ducati doesn't do much for me any more but it certainly is a very nice bike. I went through a phase where if it didnt go over 150 I didn't want it. I never was able to look at the speedo much over 155. Now that Vmax looks like real fun. I wouldn't mind takeing a ride on that. It looks like a cruiser on steroids /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Dave

Re: Why they don\'t wave

Doc,

In my case it was never about how fast my Ducati went. It wasnt the fastest out there when I got new in 99'. Its just has a different more smooth flowing way it achieves its speed.
The Gsxr's or R1's are more brutal in abrupt speed, and can get in you real trouble real fast IMO. I like em and ride them frequently (friends) but V twin power is easier for me to ride and use. That is rider preference only.
The Vmax is a hoot for sure! Its my two up bike where me and the wife ride for hours at a time loping along. Need a quick exit? No problem crack the throttle and hang on!! My aftermarket exhaust makes it sound like a big block chevy. It absolutely keeps the cars away from me when I crack it to let them know I'm next to them.
I could go on for hours...but its a tractor forum ( my other devoted hobby!)

Re: Why they don\'t wave

I never had a chance to ride on of those but I remember looking at them when with great intererst when I sold the 900 Ninja. That was when they first were comeing out but I got my mind wrapped around a 1100. Then I decided it was just time to slow down when I moved to metro Detroit. The traffic here is nuts. People run you off the road when your in a car. Then I buried a few friends in a short period of time from bike accidents and it just seemed like the right time to back off. If we ever move out of this area I will own a bike again in a flash, or maybee even in a few years when we get our camp built. Dave

I pretty sure my lower back side /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif couldn't make the ride from New Hampshire to Californa in 4 days on the ground pounder..sooo maybe I'll hook the Kubota to the trailer head out,and stop at Gary in Indiana for cup of hot coffee & donut /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif continue on.
Gotta agree..for one seems to notice more plus enjoy the ride out in the wind.

Re: Why they don\'t wave

Now thats my idea of a Bike /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Can we hear more about it ???? I actually totally agree with Robert N. Heck I even agree with Gary, I just dont like it. I always wave. Personally I just figured its the person and not the bike that makes that descion. I mean if we just live on being categorized and labeled were all probably a bunch of red necked in breeders just because we own/like tractors /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif I do think its not only a shame but a friggen crime that a comany like Hd uses any foreign parts, especially for what they charge and there are those here who could do just as good a job if not better. My Duramax even has a isuzu Diesel in it /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif My Personal choice is still a Springer soft tail, just not on Michigan roads /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Have to go with a Fat boy for here /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Dave

Hi Thomas,

NH is my favorite spot !! Got family there and have spent many a trip on the kangermangus Hwy...on 2 wheels and one knee (real tight turns)...spent many hours on Loudon track as well!! Love them moose as well, they seem to be where you dont expect them or want them (in front of you on a bike for example!)

Ahhh..so you like the K-Run /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif..I believe your going to enjoy the run even more so now,for the state has repave 3/4 of the road. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
Rte 106 to the track know as a speed trap this year /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif,,gee I wonder why /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Indeed the area you speak of has something for everyone, even tractors for sale. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Moose can make the old ticker skip a beat when one rounds a corner /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gifand whole lot of down shifting braking real quick, but it seems the low flying flocks of geese..taking off or landing..one has to keep an eye out for lately. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Looks to be a taste of winter temps up here this coming weekend..sooo the woodstove shall take the place camp fires. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
May you return to NH for some better than good riding next year.

I'm little surpise the state of Maine didn't put the Moose on there plate, but I've notice Maine plate has the Loon on it..wonder what state will put a tractor on there plate. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Re: Why they don\'t wave

We have a special plate with a loon on it as well. The Mackinaw bridge plate is very popular here. I have only been throught the tip of NH on my way through to Maine or comeing back from Salmon camp in Quebeq back down through Maine. Dave

Moose?? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif In New Hampshire?? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I don't see no stinking Moose!! /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

While we were on vacation, we kept seeing all of these moose warning signs in both Vermont and New Hampshire. My wife kept saying how badly she wanted to see a moose. We never did. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

She's still upset about not having seen one. Whenever she is telling someone about how great our vacation was, she quickly qualifies it by saying something like, "Except that Vermont and New Hampshire didn't let their moose out to play, so we didn't see any!" /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I keep trying to tell her that coming across a moose on the road isn't something that I would necessarily look forward to.

In an effort to make her feel better, I e-mailed her a picture of moose.

Guess what? It didn't work! /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
