Dealer Why won't the dealer let us "test" drive the fel??

My dealer let me know of a few poeple that had purchase the same unit as I was looking @ and then I rented a b26 and it spoiled me thus I purchased one. The local Deere dealer also did the same he had a used bucket he put on a new machine and let me play with it(which I really liked some of its options). The local ford dealer has always let me try a truck with my trailer to see I liked it also. A good salesman know if you take it home and use it its hard to bring it back.

But I have notice that many on this site think it should always be waxed and in the shed to look @.

RENT anything before you buy...if the rental unit can handle being a rental unit then surely it will do well for you. Funny thing is "new" to me is used to someone else - yet I paid LESS

I agree with rental idea, for a couple hundred bucks or less (I bet they'd credit to a purchase), you can work the machine to your heart's content.

Cheap money to ensure you buy what suits you best.

Seems like the dealer may be worried you are a tire kicker. Just go and buy the one you think you want and ask the dealer if it would be ok to bring it back for the other tractor if it does not work out for you. I did just that with my dealer. I had them drop off a 2920 and had them pick it up for a 3200. There were no problems at all with doing that. I think the dealer will work with you once he knows that you are going to buy and he can only be sure once you have signed on the dotted line. If the dealer is not willing to do that then go find another dealer.

when I was looking at NH tractors they let play for over an hour with a 55hp model. That included moving dirt from one pile to another. It was a really good selling point. But then I found the MX5000 and it came home with me.

This is a joke right? My dealer let me play in the dirt with the FEL, the Box Blade and Tiller BEFORE I bought mine! I had no problem with the scratches that were in them. Would the fact that there are a few scratches on a FEL, BB or Tiller really keep anybody from purchasing them or accusing the dealer of selling used stuff? These are TRACTORS and Ground Engaging Implements for crying out loud. They are meant to and will get scratched which will have no effect on their capability. I am amazed that a dealer wouldn't let you play and or that anyone would actually have a problem with buying attachments that had a few scratches in them. Does anyone have a "barn queen" out there or do they use their stuff? I say find another dealer! Funny world we live in today ain't it?

I do see the dealer's POV on this one. I imagine that if he had a used one, he would gladly let you try it. You might call around to every dealer within reasonable distance, see if any have a used unit you could test in their yard. It cost them nothing and earns good will all the way around. Also call rental companies. Some might let you rent it for half an hour at a reduced rate if you just want to test it on their property. Also check into TBN members in your area who might let you test theirs. A nearby member let me test his before I bought a bh for my BX.

My dealer let me operate a B2920 and work the FEL controls to get a feel for it. He also showed me how easy it was to remove and reinstall right there on the lot. I didn't need to actually get the loader dirty to realize it would more than meet my needs. Having said that, I'm not sure I'd want my tractor delivered with a slightly used loader so I can see their position.

Read some past posts and you'll see the answer to that is YES, some people are that way. To some, a hairline scratch warrants an instant reduction in price. These are probably the same people that wax their tractors. I agree with everything you said, but some people don't. It would actually be funny, if I didn't feel so bad for the dealers that have to put up with it.

Given the cost of agriculture equipment today I can understand a dealers reluctance in not letting someone home demo a unit and attachment. Visualize this, I stop at the local green dealer and he delivers a $30,000 dollar tractor with zero hours and several thousand dollars more of equipment. I take the tractor, drive it through a wet area and cover it with mud, drive it into a large rock with the front end loader down while enjoying an adult beverage and damage the loader. I then call the dealer and inform him the unit does not meet my needs and request he come pick the unit up. What does the dealer do with the unit now. I venture to say that 99.99 percent of individuals spending the kind of money a tractor cost today would not accept a "NEW" tractor from a dealer with several hours on the meter and a damaged loader so the poor dealer is struck with now trying to sell a used tractor. I do not know of a car dealer that will let someone take a new car on an extended road trip to see if the vehilce will meet his/her current and future needs. I would love to hear a dealers comments if I asked him for a new truck so I see how it handled towing my boat to the lake for a couple of days, or a camper to the mountains for a week.
