If I was your spouse, I'd be ticked that you bought such a fragile piece of equipment.

bout fell out my chair when I read this...

I have been thinking about the roots our mowers keep under control but have Deere Dude has mention have used an axe on many over the years. But my wife is as good on mower as I am.

Without seeing the deck this may not work but can you not take the spindle off, take a reasonable thick piece of flat metal with holes drilled through it and the deck, using decent size bolts (at least 1/2") pull the deck back flat enough to be fine? If you leave any metal on that deck to support it as it is weaken be sure the bolts clear the blades and the belt and spindle pulley.

Replace the deck and move on. You'll have a good parts deck. Don't feel so bad I hit a hidden rock and bent a 250 baffle to h!ll lol. Accidents happen. I'm going to repair the baffle for now and replace at the end of the mowing season. Seriously though if you can't fix the deck, replace it. It's cheaper than a new tractor. The only abuse the tractor took was the deck. Check over the linkages that raise and lower and make sure all is ok.

Your being too hard on the Missus. Get her a nice Riding Push mower. Here's two samples that are pretty fool -proof...

My kids would love that bicycle mower... right up until I actually wanted them to mow the yard with it.

Do you enjoy arguing with your wife?

Smile, buy a new deck, and assure her you will "take care of" those roots. Be happy no one got hurt! :dance1:

Me, I would be out there trying to repair it. It doesn't sound that difficult. I would not blame the wife. Stuff happens, and I have broken things while mowing too.

Just came in from repairing my brand new deck myself. All I did was cut off the bent part of the baffle with a grinding wheel, and it looks pretty good. While at it I washed it up, pulled out the manual and hit all the grease points. My point is just like the others, try and fix it, if it's beyond that, replace the deck. I'm sure your wife got pretty shook up and had no intentions of wiping out the deck. Things can happen quickly and injuries too, I'm glad you didn't report she got hurt by fly metal and bits . Things happen, it'll be fixed and you'll look back and chuckle.

I assure you it was the dog's fault. When I backed my truck into my daughter's truck, at first it was her fault, then my wife's fault. But ultimately I determined it was the dog's fault.

Regarding your mower, straighten the deck out then the spindle will be aligned. I did something similar to a snow blower getting a chunk of wood buried in the snow caught in it. It bent the box into which the auger bearings are mounted. After taking it apart, then straightening the box it worked fine.

Just straighten the deck with hammer/tools and move on with your life. I am sure the rest of the tractor is fine. This is one of Deere's economy models, and it's not worth getting bent out of shape over this (no pun intended).

I hit a stump with my old LT150, and had to straighten the deck and replace a spindle (which only came in pairs, so they both got replaced). Used the tractor another 5 years after that before the deck began rusting out, and then replaced with an X380.
