If you are still considering buying anything larger than a sub-compact for use on your one acre you might want to try a tractor of size you're considering on you lot. Consider renting one, the rental fee will be small compared to the cost of buying the wrong size tractor.

We have two acres, combination of lawn, brush and woods, and several years ago rented a 35 HP John Deer (don't remember the specific model) for some landscaping work. I got the work done but concluded it was too big a tractor for the areas I was working in - the length, width and turn circle were all problems. So when we recently went tractor shopping size was important - not how big a tractor could we get but rather which was the smallest that would do the job. We settled on a BX2350 and I expect with appropriate attachments it wll do everything needed: moving snow, maintaining a gravel drive, leveling a very lumpy lawn, mowing a 1/2 acre of brush, pulling dead trees, hauling stuff around, and moving trailers (no lawn mowing). And so far it's a lot of fun.

I have used 3 different tractors on my little piece of earth. Mostly digging and spreading. I'm getting to the place where I'm ready to quit tearing up what I'm trying to fix so I'm looking at sub compact now. Even considering a cab for health reasons. would really like a Back Hoe though with the deal.

Thanks

Just to give you the warm and fuzzies....

My B7800, same "class as the new B's, handled a 10 acre heavily wooded, ravine filled plot. Ulitmately cleared 4 acres for pastures. It then moved to a 57 acre dairy farm where it rarley ventures into the woods. It has now been classified as a mower. It routinely cuts 4-15 acres of grass, or rotary cuts accordingly. Maintains over 1000 feet of gravel driveway, and does some hauling and other raking duties.

So, IMHO, this class would be an excellent choice for one acre.

Hey, If you want an L series, get an L series. Like it was said before, we only get one shot at this thing called life. Might as well have fun on the ride. However, Like I wrote before, my BX serves me well, a B series would have been nice. When I first looked at tractors about a year ago, I was hooked on the NH TC30. Big, simple and affordable. Then when I thought about it becoming my primary mower after most of the projects were done, I realized it was too big. How silly would I have looked cutting 1 1/2 acres with a 72 inch deck, fast but silly. That's when I went looking at the SCUTs. Like I wrote before, Where will you store it? If you go smaller, you will have enough left over for a car hauler trailer to store it ANd move it.

just remember, the shopping for a tractor is only a preview of the joy you will have owning one. Make sure your happy with what you get.

:D
Wow! I believe you guy's are right. I am rethinking this purchase. Ya'll probably have saved me some bucks.

These are the projects I have to do in the immediate future.

Fence to build.
Level my yard. It's pretty uneven as a rule.
till a garden. and my neihbors.
Move stuff around with the forks. not real heavy stuff.
And any thing that comes up around here that needs a tractor.
I allready have a place to store it and implements on my property.(covered)

That's pretty much it. I like to have my own tools is why I'm getting all the attachments. I'm thinking maybe the B3030 with r4's is a little down sizing and won't tear up my yard. And I'm really not in a hurry with my projects. I retired at 55 last year so I'm still in pretty good shape for the shape I'm in. LOL.

Thanks for any and all feed back.

Craig

You don't have enough projects. 1 acre just won't do it. Buy more land and get a bigger tractor.:) :D Seriously, welcome to TBN. I hope you enjoy your new purchase.

I'm confused digicamnut. Your profile says you have a 1 acre property. Are you going into business? If not, I'm scratching my head as to why you are buying a tractor.

I am stiil having a hard time getting over the "wife Gave Me The OK". Is she going to pay for it, then I can understand that.

Ok, I am beyond that lead in. In any event if the equipment is too big for your property, get more property.

I gotta side with those arguing for a BX24 or at most a new B series 2320 or 2620. Anything more is just too much tractor for one acre and general duty projects. You'll use half your land to store the equipment and the other half just to turn around in with an L (slight exaggeration admitted). Seriously, there is nothing on your list that a BX24 could do do handily. In addition if you need to trailer it it goes on a lighter smaller easier to haul and easier to store trailer. Implements will be smaller = less expensive and easier to store.

If you have extra cash just use it in a trip to Hawaii or Bali as a present to your wife for being so generous but don't waste it on an oversized tractor.:)
