On the bright side (for you), at least now you have it documented from a medical professional that "you" are not her pain in the neck:D

Yea, I told her that:D . Then she said for the pain I cause her she would need hip replacement...pain in the hip...but she did not use the word hip:eek: .

I had 4 bolted together in my neck about 5 years back. They went in from the front and seemed to have tied my throat in a knot...it hurt so bad to swallow for a few days I couldn't think about the neck. I also couldn't seem to go wee-wee for awhile...which they said had something to do with the morphine. So they had to help me out with a tube...even on morphine that hurt like the dickens. And then for a few days after that it hurt bad to go wee-wee. It was a 6 week recovery, but all I can remember about it was the throat pain and the other thingee. The neck is fine now...and everything else:D

Curly/bama,

That sounds like exactly what she will be having done. Doctor did say she would have a sore throat and have a little laryngitis for a couple of days.

I guess I'll need to get her one of those little bells to ring;)

Yep. Get her a little bell and then take the clapper out of it. That will go over really big.

My wife had that surgery last April. Her only problem was that they had a "practice" surgery. They got her all prepped, sedated and such, and could NOT get the breathing tube down her throat. Poor girl! She woke up and was ready to declare war when they told her she would have to go home and come back later for surgery.

They sent us up the street to an ENT who told her that her throat was completely normal and they had just botched the breathing tube. ...real confidence builder.

We went home and came back two days later. The ENT was there to insert the breathing tube and everything went as planned. Two days later we went home.

She wore a soft neck brace on and off for about two weeks. Within a month, I had to hide the tractor and mower keys to keep her off them. The doctor told her she should not ride them for at least 6 months, but I couldn't keep her off them longer than 3 months.

All the previous pain has gone away now and she is very happy she had the surgery, even with the frustration.

BTW: They billed the insurance company twice for the surgical suite. We complained, but the insurance company paid because they said it wasn't all that uncommon and they would rather the medical folks do it again than force the issue and have severe injury or death. I guess they have a point...

Dang Jim...if my wife had to go home and come back I would pitty that doctor.:D

Thanks for the reply; it looks like this is a fairly common surgery.

You know...TBN just amazes me, you come here to read about tractors and projects and can get information on neck surgery! :)

I had surgery to fuse C6-C7 on 9/27. I am back to speed now but still experiencing a bit of weakness in my right arm. It's coming back slowly but surely. The arm nerve was quite compressed and my surgeon said it will be a while. The thing that really blew my mind was them going through the front of your neck. A lot of tissue to get to the spine area, no wonder the sore throat I also dealt with. I'm sure it'll go well for her.

Thanks to everyone for your kind words and prayers.

I brought my wife home late Tuesday and from all indications the surgery was a success. She has been in pain and having a hard time eating anything solid because of her throat. And seems to be in some pain. Doctor said it should start easing up after about 7-10 days.

She can only drink milkshakes and soup. Kinda good since I have to do all the cooking now:) ...plus clean house, laundry, etc:( . But my teenage son is helping out.

I did cook hamburger steak, greenbeans, potatos, and bake a pumpkin pie (Mrs. Smiths)for Thanksgiving. Was not as good as her turky and stuffing but having her home and healthy was all the Thanksgiving I needed.

Again, thanks to everyone for your thoughts and prayers.
