Wife Having Neck Surgery

having her home and healthy was all the Thanksgiving I needed

I imagine so. I know it would be for me if it were my wife.

Glad it sounds as if the surgery was a success.

I am glad to hear she is doing well and I want to wish her a fast recovery.

So did everything go better then expected with the surgery? I know my doctors prepared me for the worst by warning me about all of the potential side effects to the types of surgery they were recommending. So when I came out with very little pain I was very happy and thankful.

I know this Thanksgiving I was thankful to be able to play with my daughter so I understand how you feel. I wish you and your family the best and hopefully she will be doing great for the Christmas feast. Take care of her and your family.

Robert,

I think everything went good with the surgery. We will have to wait until she has follow-up x-rays in another week or two. The pain she has in in her shoulders, chest, and throat.

And the pain from my cooking..I "BAMMED" the greenbeans one to many times, they were kinda salty.:(

Also glad to here you are recovering. And I am sure your daughter was very happy that you could play with her.

Family...there is nothing like it!!

Yeah, Ava is happy to see me getting better. She knows as soon as I am all better she gets to go to McDonalds and play so she is rooting for me:rolleyes:

I am sorry your wife is in as much pain as she is. Hopefully she was given some good medicine to help with it. I do hope she has a fast recovery.

Does she have any limitations other then eating your cooking;) ?

I'm a candidate for the same surgery someday...have a bulging (c4?) disk also, causes me left shoulder and arm pain some too. I was also freaked by the going in through the front part:eek: but apparently that is how they do them.

Best of health for your wifes recovery, try not to make it worse by imitating Emeril Lagasse too often..:D

We are so glad you wife is doing well. I had to share your story with my wife since she can identify with the discomfort and pain in the beginning. I hope you have taken some time off from work to be there to wait on your wife during this time. It's just extremely important that she goes very slowly in the beginning. After the trauma and pain subside, she will surely see a marked improvement.

Looking at the x-rays can be a little frightening when you see that plate. That's a good thing to have that image "burned" into your brain though, because you never want to forget that it's there. She will also probably notice that she has reduced movment in her neck permanently. That's a small price to pay for the reduction in pain.

Good luck and continued success to your wife and her recovery.

Robert,
She was given some pain medicine and it does help. She went most of the day yesterday without any, which is an improvement. Her limitations are not to lift over 5 pounds, no driving for 3-4 weeks, don't look directly down as when going up steps.

Skyco,

Get it done while you only have one to repair.

Irwin,
Now when I "BAM", the dog starts barking and my wife and son start looking at "take-out" .

Thanks Jim.
I did take all week off to be with her. Depending on how she does today we will decide if I need to take off tomorrow(Monday). If I go to work I am only 15 min away and I will have her mother come out and sit with her.

Any advice your wife can give from her experence would be good. I met someone at the store yesterday who was 8 weeks post surgery. I asked a lot of questions about their recovery and relayed that to my wife. It made her feel a little better that her pain and soreness was about the same as everyone else who had the surgery.

The hardest thing for me was trying to sleep just could not get comfortable not even with drugs. What worked for me was laying flat on my back with the pillow under my hips.
