Don't feel bad, I had to Google the term too, had never heard it before. Must be regional slang, we just call them deer.

Must be regional I never heard it either , tree rats yes :)

My friend drives a 2019 AWD Chrysler and hit a big doe 3 + weeks ago.
In attempting to avoid it he ended up in the center straddling the white line.
Waiting for the LEO's his flashers blinking and he waves down on oncoming car.
The oncoming driver panics, hits the deer and she take out the Chrysler's front end.
Damaged to the point that we question the possibility of it being declared totaled.

She never hit her brakes and my friend had to dive into the ditch.
Going on 30 days and insurance still debating I guess as to who to blame.

LOL, the LEO needed 3 shots to put the doe down, not enough practice.

Hooved rat is just my own invention. Fits them better than something that construes to be "dear". They're not dear to a gardener. They were put here apparently for the wolves and coyotes and man to eat. Men have killed off most of the wolves and coyotes, and they're too lazy now to shoot them and butcher them to eat. Some thing they're cute and won't let you shoot them in any kind of organized affair. We tried here in the homeowners association. Too many hooved rat lovers.

Never swerve to avoid an animal unless it's so big that it's a threat to you. A friend of mine back in the 60s had a TR-3. Hit a cow. The cow ended up in his lap. He should have swerved. TR-3s don't swerve well. They plow. I know. I plowed one and bend the frame on it. Totalled.

Last week the neighbor was at the 3 way county road stop...

Totally stopped as another car had the right of way.

Deer jumped on the new Ford pick up and did lots of damage... he was taking it in the last I heard but needed to go to a shop that works on the new ones.

Best he can figure is the deer spooked from the raised berm on the side of the road...

So even standing still a Deer can hit you...

I got one with my Freightliner and 5 axle trailer. It didn't have a chance. It tried jumping between the tractor and the trailer. What was on the road after 5 axles ran it over was just a mass of mangled deer.

My Grandma got hit by one that way. She got stopped for one, and another slammed into her rear door. Creased the door pretty well. I wouldn't have wanted to hit it hard enough to put a dent like that in a door.

S

Same type of car and similar damage to wife痴 car two years ago. Deer broke his neck

My deer was fine. I turned around to go back and check on him, and there were a dozen deer just off the road outside of headlight range. Sure scared my wife and her sister who were on the passenger side of the car!

Must have been back in the 80's, there was an article in the newspaper about one of the local rural police force that had reduced their deer hits by putting those deer whistles on the patrol cars. Working nights at the time, I used to drive in area's with plenty of deer so I put them on my truck and I never hit one. Years later, for some reason, I did not have them on my Dodge dually. I was flying low one night about 4am when a doe jumped over the guardrail and I hit her dead center. It was like 15 degrees outside and all you could see was steaming meat on the road. Like some kind of Sci-Fi show.

I drive a school bus for the county where I live. We have plenty of strikes. One of our women drivers had a deer slam into her service door. She kept her composure in spite of the flying glass, blood, hair and meat that she got blasted with! Four years are so on we still call her the deer slayer!
