Will an L4300 and MX5100 really lift 2300 lbs at 3pt hitch?

Just a thought, you could fab a bracket that could hold another 6 weights and hang them in front of your existing weights. Having another 330 pounds sitting 18" (or so) out in front of the existing weights would greatly increase your downforce on the front.

Can't say I have ever seen one, but shouldn't be too hard to fab. The expense will be the six additional weights.

Thoughts???

I know 4shorts did but I would be afraid I would rip the frame apart or do something like that. If t's more than 2000 lbs I'll just use a bigger tractor. The little ones are so handy, however.

So, what's the implement? What are the dimensions? I know you posted the weight, I'm just curious about how big it is and where that weight is centered.

Glad to hear it'll do what you wanted.

It's a Brillion slit seeder and heavy as a bear.

Nice! It does look heavy but with a little more front weight it should be fine.

sixdogs do you have a loader on your 5100 if so put the bucket on it.

No bucket.

It will be fine if I take it easy and watch myself on any turns with the implement up. This puppy is really heavy and a good lesson that a tractor may be able to lift a given amount of weight but not be able to navigate real well with it off the ground. I can see how newbies could get into trouble.

In my case the tractor may be rated at 2300 lbs of lift two feet back from the link ends but for all practical applications I would say 1800 or maybe 1900 lbs is really the max I would want to put on it for a field appliccation.

Just curious why don't you use a heavier suitcase weight? A bigger suitcase weight can weigh + or - 100lbs and will not take up much more space than the smaller ones. You might find some used ones at your local ag dealership.

I have lots of weights and have the maximum weight the manufacturer says to put on. I don't want to tear a frame section or break something in half. Remember, the tractor isn't on concrete or a front lawn but bouncing around in difficult field conditions where stress levels on the tractor are greater than might be encountered otherwise. I'm going with what they suggest.

Sure, a loader would give more front end weight but then I lose the advantage of a compact tractor in tight spacesplus it would handle entirely different. I have seen overweighted tractors with damaged front ends or torn frame metal or broken bolts. Stuff happens. Maybe not on concrete but stuff happens.

You could always ballast the front tires if need be, There might also be an optional bracket that you can hang full size weights off of instead of the lighter ones.

This suggestion solves your problem, but would involve a fairly major fab and build.

Purchase or fab a front end loader subframe, then instead of attaching a loader to the subframe, construct a frame that allows you to hang weights at either the sides of your tractor or in front.

Using the existing connection points a loader would use, all of the stress of your 'weight rack' would be placed at locations that Kubota has designed to take the stress for the FEL.

You probably could get by with hanging weights on each side, along the engine bay. With a tad bit of planning, decent fab skills and some Kubota orange paint, I think the mod would look pretty slick. That said, I personally wouldn't go to that extreme - I think I would opt to hang a few more pounds off the front. That's just me, and I definitely appreciate / respect your reluctance to so.

That is a very creative and original thought--to hang weights at places that Kubota already designed for weight. We better not let 4shorts hear of this or it will be his next mod.
