Here are some picture of panels I built from sheets of steel. I made plywood forms and clamped the steel to it and bent the edges around the plywood to make the shapes. The top edge was bent all the way around into a u shape and I inserted a piece of 1/2" square tube in it for additional strength. I will try to find pictures of building the panels this week.

Wow!
Thanks for posting, my first vehicle was a Jeep CJ-5 w/304 V8.

Got it running tonight. Runs pretty well. New problem now, only drove it about 10 feet and something is locking up either in the transfer case or transmission. Rolls fine in neutral but kills engine when I try to drive (locks up drive wheels).

I had that happen once in 4WD only. Loose ring gear in front.

dropped the transmission and transfer case yesterday afternoon. Both are in need of complete rebuilds. t-case will only turn about 1/4 turn before locking up. guess I found my problem

Good you caught it before catastrophic failure... with a little luck it will be bearings and bushings?

Well it is the transfer case for sure. I have a good friend that owns a transmission shop and he is going to rebuild both trans and transfer case for me in exchange for some tractor work. He needs some asphalt millings moved and graded at his house on the driveway. You knew the tractor had to fit in here somehow. Actually I can't imagine doing all this without it. I've used it to move the jeep around, remove and install the body by myself at least a dozen times, pull the engine, and just this morning I used it to load the transmission and transfer case in the back of the truck.

wow that's a nice job! I like the fact that you restored it to original looks without any mods

Actually they are 16 inch rams off of an older Willys. Tires are 6.50x16

Still waiting on the transmission so working on other parts. Finished sewing passenger seat cushions and installed and installed the hood. Had to make some adjustments to make everything fit correctly.

What a good feeling. Have lots of little things to make it "done".
