This is an old thread, but I was talking about capacities just the other day. I was having some cable made by a rigger and I just happened to ask about safety factors for winches. For a winch, the SF is 2:1. The shackles that I are 12t with a 5:1SF. That's a ultimate strength of 60k, so for a safety factor of 2:1, I can safely pull 30,000lb.
