Really nice looking work there!
Would like to utilize the PTO transmission on my Ram for a bumper mount hydraulic winch, but it would cost mega $$$
Tractor winches much better since the cleated R1’s less prone to sliding.
I have a winch on my Rubicon, but it lacks the azz to pull anything really heavy.
Thank you!

That would indeed be a killer setup. The PTO pump would be the way to go as it would allow you to run a bigger pump and get some nice speed out of the winch versus running one using a belt drive of the crankshaft.

The 90's Mitsubishi Pajero/Montero had an option for a PTO driven winch, a fully mechanical setup. Really neat, crazy powerful but a very very rare option. From looking at some videos, it had a very decent speed for a recovery winch.

HF has a nice line of HD winches with excellent reviews on off road magazines. Their line of Badland winches work for me, have one on my side by side but my 350 Ford has a Mile Marker hydraulic winch that runs off the power steering pump. Had it for years, used it a couple times, always works.

You could get a pto winch for the old IH Scouts also and I had a 73 Toyota FJ Land Cruiser with it.
Those actually ran off of the transfer case, with the transfer case in neutral and the pto engaged you
could select any gear to vary the winch speed

There was a fellow with a 1945 Dodge Power Wagon in our 4WD club. It had a front bumper mount PTO driven winch. It had POWER beyond compare. It was also slower than molasses in January. The setup was OEM.

For that matter the Power Wagon itself was slow. IIRC - it topped out at around 45 mph.
I've got a 1951 Dodge M37 truck, which was basically a military version of a Power Wagon (Power Wagon purists, please don't get upset at my use of the term. I know it's not a Power Wagon.) it does share a lot of components with the Power Wagons of that era.

The PTO winch some of them came with from the factory was a Braden LU-4, rated at 7500#. (Though there are plenty who claim it will pull a lot more than that - and it probably will.)

Years back our family company owned about a 1/2 dozen Korean War surplus Dodge Weapons Carriers that used their industrial flathead 6, had 6 wheel drive with a huge military pto winch and seats on each front fender for the Mine detector operators. My Dad and I cleared a few acres mostly of mostly Pin oak for a new house. Not sure of the capacity but she carried a 5/8" cable and we would pull up to a tree and just kiss the bumper, then wrap a stump about 30 feet away and yank out 12" stumps like pulling weeds out of a garden.

The winch isn't too bad, $2100 for 18,000 pound winch.
Of course then the 16 gpm pump and reservoir for it will add up.

My CUT rear weight incorporates a hitch receiver tube.
I bolted a fair sized winch on a plate that I welded onto a 2" tube.
Also installed an Anderson plug for power.
I haven't needed it often but sure does the job whenever I wish to retrieve something and or pull myself out of a jam.
I've also retrieved a fair number of trees for firewood.
Only downside is current draw vs battery and alternator capacity so that needs monitoring.
OK for occasional usage but for sure not serious logging operations.

Set up so it can be used on truck, trailer, Tractor front or rear
