Winches and power drain

I am considering a Kubota RTV 500, with winch Kubota offers as an accessory. Does anyone have this RTV/ winch combo, and how it compares to the experiences and suggestion offered by those responding to this thread?

its no different for any machine. they are not design for continuous use, more of a get unstuck and let it cool down if its a hard pull situation. generally the only type that can be run continous are hydraulic based winches.

That an a PTO winch.

I have the Kubota side by side with the Kubota branded (Superwinch) winch and the OEM jar is just marginally adequate for one good pull and it's done and don't shut it off because you won't have enough juice to start it back up. I ditched the OEM flloded cell for a Hawker Oddesy gel cell. It's better but the alternator is the limiting factor now.

You are suppose to have the engine running while doing most anything, with your winch.

My issue with my side by side is it's an EFI motor and the ECU requires a minimum of 9 volts to remain operational so If I did run the battery flat, the unit would shut off anyway. Too heavy to push anywhere...

Well I must say that this thread has produced a wealth of info -- thank you all. The bottom line I draw from all of this is that a winch on an ATV is of pretty limited value.
