Text sizes must constantly be adjusted, seemingly every time you open a new program.

Yep, that's one I haven't solved.

Call me old fashioned or just plain old

Yep, me too.

It took just over one hour to download

Sure wish it had been that fast for me.

it will take me weeks or months to correct, adjust, tweak, delete, remove all of the glitches in this OS that we will never use or that just plain frustrate us to the point that we will simply never open them.

Me, too, again.

One good thing, always end on a positive note they say. That irritating pop up side bar gizmo has been eliminated.

Good point.

I have never understood the 'anger' some people have around a vendor or operating system.

M$ burned its bridges with its customers years ago due to its arrogance and greed. The only reason people still use Windows is because there are no other viable PC OS alternatives. Linux is an incomprehensible joke except for the bit-bending techies.

That's why I switched to an Apple MacMini and a MacBook Air. It's not personal, it's business.

I usually start the Windows virtual machines once a week to handle my, or my FILs, finances in Quicken. I reserve 30 minutes to do the finances and 30 minutes to install all the patches.

I disagree...most users that do not appreciate the state of the art Linux distributions are previous Windows users...and because Linux does not always work the same way Windows does they get frustrated...

If you took two entirely "new to PCs" users (never used a computer before) and gave one a Linux and another a Windows box...IMO the Linux user would learn how do do everything the Win user can...in less time and end up knowing a lot more how/why things work on a computer...

If the various linux distributions would put some time into making their GUI keyboard friendly and making the menus a little more intuitive (think CENTOS and the Network Config menu item that resides in the preferences menu rather than the administration menu: http://www.serverlab.ca/imgs/figures/29-figure-03.jpg), it would go a long way for folks like me who run *nix on the server and wouldn't mind running it for a desktop.
If you lose your mouse on most *nix distributions you are dead in the water unless you can switch to a shell window and know what commands to use to fix it.

My FILs laptop used to have Windows on it....Until it got infected by ransom ware. Fortunately, he contacted me and a nephew before he did anything.

He was not running current AV and I can't even recall what version of Windows. Probably XP. Maybe Vista.

Since all he uses the laptop for is email (browser based) and web surfing, my nephew installed a graphical version of *nix, set it up for him and didn't give him admin rights.

No calls since.

He probably could use just a tablet, but at 85, he was used to a laptop.

I think I've just about got this Windows 10 broke to lead; even starting to like it. One small problem is that my Quicken 2013 works just fine but the display isn't as sharp and clear as it used to be. It even pops up a dialogue box telling how to change the resolution in different versions of Windows (but not Windows 10). But it simply says the resolution should be 1024 x 768 or higher. Well, mine is already 1600 x 900, so I don't know what the solution might be.

And I've been periodically running the free version of Piriform Ccleaner. Today I checked their website and they claim to be ready for Windows 10, so I downloaded and ran a trial version of Piriform Ccleaner Professional Edition ($39.95 if I decide to buy it) and it removed 23,786 mb, mostly the "old Windows installation".

One thing I don't like is it is always trying to call back to the mother ship. During configuration I checked NO for all of the feedback questions, but my firewall keeps popping up that it is trying to phone home.

Maybe I should care, but I really don't care if Microsoft knows what I'm doing, so I allow the feedback and haven't had your problem. And since my ISP (Charter) provides F Secure antivirus, I leave the other turned off.
