Windows 10

You must have never used Windows ME. And I can't imagine anyone thinking 10 is worse than 8. But I guess it's just personal preference. I like 10 so far.

I always wait for early adopters to report on Windows upgrades so managed to avoid Windows ME. To date I've been reasonably happy with 3.1, 95, XP and 7. Just wondering if 10 is going to make the cut.

3.1 and 95 weren't too bad, but I'd put XP right up there with ME.

What are some of the privacy issues with the updates?
There aren't any privacy issues. The 'privacy' issue that hit the popular press was the default setting allows other people to get their updates from your PC IF they can connect to it. Big deal. Turn the option off. Sometimes, maintenance can turn options back on.

How is antivirus defense handled in Win10. I find that issue has been the biggest hassle I face going back to Win3. Is the in house Microsoft free antivirus adequate?
I've always found it adequate.

windows 10 = old windows interface 95,me,xp,vista,win 7 with the old start menu. some things are still different in were some settings are located but still seems to run faster and so far stable.

the update from win 8 to win 10 went easy for me. and everything worked.

biggest beef though.... it was kinda like a format and reinstall of OS. and having to re-install a couple applications or rather i should say re-assign what applications opened what files.

i end up using onedrive from microsoft more than i care. for a "backup" for files. vs trying to use usb flash drives / burning cd's / dvd's. or using some other form of external hard drive for backup.

i still hate microsoft "library" folders. and yet to disable them in file explorer. "to much junk"

i really do not mind other computers connecting to my own computer for updates. i actually prefer it. i have yet to test it. but if it is anything like some microsoft servers for business. were all updates get downloaded to a company server/computer. and then all computers in company pull data from the local server for updates vs bringing internet to a stand still while all the computers try to grab updates off internet. it is a bonus for me. from sounds of it, microsoft just went one step further and did it "torrent style"

it seems microsoft went a tad overboard in how you can get to different settings with windows 10. *thankful they did" just trying to find your own way through it all to get to various settings.

=============
about only issue i am going to dred, is when i need to format / reinstall. and will i need to install windows 8, then upgrade to 8.1 then to win10 all over again. or will they actually give a direct upgrade file, that downloads what is needed. along with some sort of recover files for usb flash drive or cd.

and of course i just deleted all the old windows 8 crud so i can no longer uninstall windows 10 and go back to windows 8 *uth oh!* without a format reinstall doing.

having to re-install a couple applications

I did find that my HP Photosmart 7520 printer didn't want to work, so I just pulled the CD from the file cabinet and re-installed it, then also installed it on the new computer and all's well.

I keep getting notices several times a day that "My Windows 10" is ready. I'm using Windows 7. Is there any reason to change. Or am I the last person on earth to do so?

If you've switched, what's your opinion of Windows 10?

PS If this is completely off-topic, let me know and I'll delete it, or move it to the right place. Thanks.

I updated one desktop and one laptop computer from Windows 7 to Windows 10 about two weeks ago - so far it's been very positive change.

They both work faster and it fixed few problems in both of them. I have not seen any negatives so far

Micro$oft calls that Windows 10 feature WUDO "Windows Update Delivery Optimization". It hijacks your computer in order to transfer Micro$oft's bandwidth bills from them to you. It distributes updates across the Internet from your computer to total strangers! This feature is turned on by default so you may not be aware of it until you get an invoice from your ISP with unexplained data usage overage charges.

How to Stop Windows 10 From Uploading Updates to Other PCs Over the Internet

I like win10 much better than win8. I also went thru and turned off all the feedback, including helping others download.

I'm suddenly having win7 problems, I keep getting messages that mine is not authentic, which it is. I've had it for years, preloaded by dell. Tried to restore, they keep failing. it's going thru a microsoft check of some sort now to try to figure out what is wrong.

I think it's due to installing a new video card a couple weeks ago...

You may need to go through the automated phone process of re-authenticating your system. Win 7 doesn't like hardware changes. Swapping a mother board can be brutal even if it's the same model.

I plan to try Win10 on my tablet, I'm not a fan of 8.1 which is what it has. I put my tablet in airplane mode when not in use or I end up with a dead battery almost every day. My PC's usually get the network connection disabled when not being used, easy enough to put an icon on the desktop. Hard for MS to suck up bandwidth when there's no connection.
