Thanks for the link. Looks easy to disable.
If you do the upgrade to 10, is there a easy way to restore back to previous os version should you decide to?

Micro$oft calls that Windows 10 feature WUDO "Windows Update Delivery Optimization". It hijacks your computer in order to transfer Micro$oft's bandwidth bills from them to you. It distributes updates across the Internet from your computer to total strangers! This feature is turned on by default so you may not be aware of it until you get an invoice from your ISP with unexplained data usage overage charges.

How to Stop Windows 10 From Uploading Updates to Other PCs Over the Internet

Thank you for that little tidbit of knowledge.. I did not know about that..but it is fixed now!

You get a month to decide if you want to go back to your old OS.

One thing that I've been trying to get is my Favorites into my internet browser. Just could not get them into Microsoft Safe. So, I tried IE 11, which is included in Windows 10.

Was able to copy my Favorites directly into /User/Ralph/Favorites/FavoritesBar from a copy of them on my flash drive.

Could only copy them one by one into Microsoft Safe. Was starting to dislike it because my Norton wouldn't work properly inside Microsoft Safe.

I have upgraded to Win10 on both desktops and 1 laptop. The other 2 laptops get upgraded today. So far I have not had any issues that could not be fixed such as a driver needed to be re-installed or a file permission reset. I did turn off all the sharing functions as others have discussed. My old laptop that started on XP and that I upgraded to Win7 runs faster on Win10. It's the kitchen spare sitting on the counter so it does not get used a lot but might now that it's faster.

I also went with Office 365. For $99/yr you get 5 copies of Office 2013 Pro (which includes Outlook, Access, & Publisher) and 1 TB of OneDrive space per computer. You also get 60 Skype minutes/month per user. With 5 computers that's cheaper than buying upgrades every 3 years. The standard OneDrive space is 15 MB which was not enough for me so I killed 2 birds with one stone by going to Office 365 (no offense Bird).

I like win10 much better than win8. I also went thru and turned off all the feedback, including helping others download.

I'm suddenly having win7 problems, I keep getting messages that mine is not authentic, which it is. I've had it for years, preloaded by dell. Tried to restore, they keep failing. it's going thru a microsoft check of some sort now to try to figure out what is wrong.

I think it's due to installing a new video card a couple weeks ago...

maybe this will help someone else, turns out my win7 problem was due to a new hard drive installed around the same time as the new video card. The fix was to install a new driver for Intel Rapid Storage Technology. The new hard drive install triggered the OS as not being authentic, which then prohibited window updates. Just happened to find this by googling the error code I was getting.

My old hard drive was going bad, I was lucky I got it cloned over to a new drive without loosing any data.

Many thanks for the replies. I'm thinking that it's a bit too early to jump on the "10" bandwagon. W-7 is doing fine, and 'fine' is good enough for now.

My Quicken Deluxe 2013 is working just fine on Windows 10 . . . but . . . the font is smaller and I just don't like the looks of it. One of my brothers tells me his Quicken 2014 sometimes makes calculation errors, but I think he had that problem before he upgraded to Windows 10.

Anyway, I've been considering buying Quicken Deluxe 2015. However, after doing a little searching on the Internet, it appears that 2015 is only compatible with Windows 7, 8, & 8.1. So I guess I'll be waiting for Quicken Deluxe 2016 rumored to be released the end of this month.

I updated to Windows 10 on my four desktops. It really is a very pleasant surprise after the nightmare of Windows 8 that was so difficult and time consuming to handle, quicker but not so different from the excellent Windows 7.
I have upgraded from all versions of Windows through the years and it has never been so easy and never meant so few adjustments for drivers and other software. So far, I'm very happy with 10. One thing I do find irritating is that the new browser "Edge" doesn't have the same choice as Internet Explorer when you click on the cross to close something: the present page or the whole lot ? It has to be all windows..Bur it's very fast !
